I'd rather not spam this thread up with the ethics of capitalism and taking advantage of the ignorant for personal gain. Let's just say that the person who bought those items with the purpose of scalping would fit right in with Wall Street.

Why he wouldn't sell them for what he paid plus shipping costs is beyond me. It's like he didn't want to help these desperate people out. I guess I'm one of the few who sell rare items less than what the market says they're worth. Why? Because I like helping people out.

Who's ignorant? Somebody wants something, they pay for it. It's not like they don't know the retail cost, or what they're spending for that matter.

I just bought a $5 CD the other day for $30 because that's the going rate these days. I wanted the item, I have the money, so I'm happy with the purchase. Nobody forced my hand. I don't find any value in spending this kind of money for this particular item, but obviously to some people it's worth quite a bit.

Anyway . . . I took a spin by Best Buy today just to see if I could snag a cowl. No luck, but you guys aren't kidding about the DVD trilogy set vs. the Blu-ray. The Blu-ray looks very amateur compared to the DVD (even though I'm not really crazy about both).

Ethics is one thing but I don't think anyone buying these for $200 is in a desperate position. They clearly have the cash willingly available to spend on a broken piece of plastic in a nice box.

They may be spending that much because the holiday season is approaching and if these items are nowhere to be found, they won't be easily attained. $200 is better than $500.

So glad I imported The (UK) Dark Knight Trilogy! I know it would be better than our version here in The States, but damn. After the WBShop letdown this and my Germany Muller Embossed Digibook have made me very happy! Oh, and I got two of these for £30.39 which is about $25 USD each

The Dark Knight Trilogy Limited Edition Blu Ray Boxset - Unboxing Review - YouTube
If you were going to import, why not order the far superior dvd trilogy packaging. I'm assuming you already own all the movies, ditch the dvds and throw all 6 BD in there. That's what I did. I couldn't stand the BD trilogy art.

You got that right! I'll never understand it!
Unless the Ultimate BD set is going to have that artwork...then I'll be really pissed!

I have that one too, you know I had to get that. But the WBShop "Happy Meal" Limited to 1000 Edition was the biggest letdown that I will either sale or return. The UK Trilogy has that leather type slipbox w/ silver type embossed text and logo ... ah ... cant wait to see it in person! And then there is this that is on the way to me... MY PRECIOUS!!!

"what he paid plus shipping"!?! So he's supposed to be a charity? His time is worth nothing? Do you give all of your time and labor away for free? You must support yourself somehow.

If you take away eBay's cut ($41.70), guestimate shipping/insurance ($30-40) and gas ($5) - you're left with LMN8R making between $37-$47 an hour, maybe less, depending on how long it took him to buy, wrap and ship his product (which he invested in and took the risk on). That's more than I make but hardly Wall Street wages by any stretch - and it was only good for a few hours worth of work. How much would his buyers have had to spend to get to Oklahoma or somewhere else in order to get one of these for a gift or whatever? I just think it's absurd to preach commie or quasi-Hare Krishna crap on a thread that's populated by first worlders who are spending a fortune on entertainment and bragging about how many versions of Batman they own.

I'm not knocking these folks, I'm one of them. I'm poor and spending money I need for real life - but I chose to be here, I chose to spend too much money for my own reasons. Should I expect someone amongst us who has money to burn to support my media habit? Of course not. You seem like a nice person and I don't mean to be rude. I just think your impulse to care got ahead of your head. You've listed ownership of almost 100 discs - not the largest collection around, but how many people could you help if you sold them and gave the money away? Should you do that? Of course not, you have a right to what's yours, what you paid the opportunity cost for. The problem isn't individuals who make a few bucks by being adventurous, it's the corporations who mass produce countless versions of the same thing so that OCD types - like many of us here - will spend more than they can afford to keep those manufacturers rich. We all share in that party and we all share in that guilt. It's not right to point that light at one guy who sold two lousy Cowl sets. We're all in this together. If you have to blame someone, blame the real Wall Street types - but don't forget that they get away with it because we let them, we empower them. We're all in this together.

Any reason why this doesn't jump straight into the movie like BB & TDK does? Not a big deal, but I had just turned off my PS3 controller when the menu popped up. haha.

If I want to sell something that the market deems is worth more than I paid, I always go lower than what I paid because I am not a capitalist. I sold a copy of Zodiac for $15 shipped, when I paid $20 for it. I sold it that low because 1) it was used and watched many times and 2) the person was desperate to have it and 3) it's not worth more than I paid and certainly not worth what I paid for it. I'm not in the business to rip people off. I do not look for opportunities to flip items so the ignorant will be parted with their money easily. I'm in the business to help those who desperately want something. I'm going to be a school teacher, after all.

When you pull the stunt this guy did, you create demand for capitalistic practices corporations healthily employ. He was operating solely on greed. Had he not known the copies were going for over $150, he wouldn't have done what he did. That's where my offense at this practice lies.

Those are older WB titles. A lot of them played automatically.

sorry but I like helping "desperate" people by donating things they NEED such as clothing, food and a percentage of my income that I partially earn from selling things other people WANT for profit.

Nobody needs a collector movie case or plastic replica movie memorabilia.

Does that have stuff about the movie in the pages? I returned my target digibook because it was a comic. It no production notes about the movie.

If the market dictates that it is, then, sorry, it is. I flip things all the time and make decent money at it. I don't feel bad about it, you know why? Because every store does exactly the same thing. You think Amazon pays 17.99 for a blu then sells it for the exact same price??? EVERY product you buy - from the grocery store to blu-rays - is marked UP by the seller, to make a profit. No difference here, but it's kinda hypocritical if you think it's okay in some instances but not in others.

I never said it was okay in some instances and not in others. I think it's a deplorable practice all around but I realize that it has to be done in some instances, like with businesses. But this member didn't flip that product to keep his business alive. What he did is in no way comparable to what Amazon did. Amazon has to sell certain at certain prices to recoup costs it paid for them. If it didn't, it'd be out of business. As far as I know, the member here did not flip the item to keep a business alive. He did it because he knew people were paying high prices for the release. He did it for greed.

Your tu quoque isn't very impressive, but there you go. At least we're having dialogue.
