I don't know why, but if this is going to be a new practice by certain third party sellers it needs to be stopped. Imagine ordering a collectors edition and getting a copy like this. And it has to be the sellers that are doing it and not something to do with the content(like being studio specific). Unlike season 4 of TVD, my season 3 copy came straight from Amazon and is completely fine.

Those are cut-outs. Studio imposed damaging of the bar code. They are sold in mass at a discount/close-out/cut-out price. This prevents someone from returning them for full price. Essentially.

Yep, most BDs at Big Lots have this slash across the barcode.

Couple of books I forgot to include in my previous haul:
Bought Taschen's Stanley Kubrick Archives last Aug off amazon.com. It's a beautifully compiled book that takes a comprehensive look at Kubrick's career featuring plethora of film stills, archival info and essays, interviews by/with Kubrick and other film scholars.
The Art and Making of The Dark Knight Trilogy was a gift from a friend.
