Two of my favourite films star Mescal, maybe my 2025 list will include Gladiator 2, who knows?

Finished out my acquisitions for the year. Some were gifts and some were purchased with gift cards. Looking forward to a terrific 2025 for physical media!

135 titles on digital

For the year ending 2024 I added 216 titles on disc. This is a slight drop from 2023 when I added 227 titles. However, in 2024 I nearly doubled the number of 4K discs that I bought: 101 titles this year vs. 52 in 2023.

Despite my buying a kinda pricey new TV this year, and all of my healthcare travel expenses, I still managed to grow my collection about the same amount year over year.

I expect next year to see a precipitous drop in my movie purchases, though. I'll post more about the reasons for that soon.
Looks like I bought around:
40 to 50 4k blu rays
200 blu rays
1 digital copy of beetle juice

Did anyone get the Seinfeld 4K set? I'm getting a little pissed about the prices. $220 for the 4K and $132 for the BD? Talk about pricing people out...

I felt the opposite. I thought it was on par with he previous trilogy which in my mind is high praise. Of course, I haven't seen it since I watched it in theatres so my opinion may change on a second watch. But overall I was impressed.

What didn't you like about it?

I felt it was just retreading familiar ground from the entire history of the franchise. I didn’t feel there was a character as compelling as Ceaser, and I found the last 30 minutes dull.
Felt stale, which for the start of a new trilogy is worrying to me.

On the plus side, it looked and sounded fantastic, and the CGI was great.

Does anyone make New Years Resolutions ?

I'm resolving to

1- Get my car project on the road (my own project 2025)

2 - Reach 1000 UHD BD titles.

What's significant about 1000 ? Nothing really ... I'm just fairly close and it's a way of acknowledging that I want to pay more attention to the format and buy more movies in general.

The collection feature here helps a TON with auditing my collection. I keep the app on my phone so I don't rebuy movies I already have when I see them in town. Moreover, there is an Upgrade to 4K feature which alerts me to movies I already found worth owning that have been re-issued in hopefully higher quality. And this list can be sorted by lowest prices.! Looking at this list there are 65 movies I own available right now in UHD BD for under $20 !

UHD BD is certainly one of my favorite things ever because it lets me enjoy the full quality of my Home Theater. 4K video and lossless Atmos Audio provide the best home video quality ever.

just came out two weeks ago; the price will almost certainly drop later.

Still, for that $220 you get 9 years worth of entertainment running 4188 minutes across 24 discs. That's $24.44 per season, 5.25 cents per minute, and $9.17 per 4K disc. This set is equivalent to almost 35 two-hour long movies in the amount of entertainment that it provides and that doesn't include the extras.

Alternatively, the digital version in HDX "quality" at Fandango At Home is $99.99... with a list price of $511.29! The list price for the 4K disc set is only $249.99.

Nope, I hate all that bollocks. (New year resolutions) not beautiful HT and 4K discs.

Those are valid criticisms. It just didn't bother me, especially considering it's the 4th film in a franchise. Maybe I just had lowered expectations but it was much better than I was anticipating.

Believe it or not, Vilya and I actually talked about this very thing. The main level of the new house has a couple more weeks to go with the various projects underway, then we switch gears to the basement. My guess is we should be ready in the spring with new furniture arriving by then also. Springtime is a great time in this part of the country from what I hear before all the tourists show up in the summer, so I have it penciled in as something to try and pull together.

I know logistics and travel can make it very difficult for most if not all, but stay tuned as it would be great to host such a get together.

I hope everyone is housebroken though.

For all the talk about the impending demise of physical media, I can't really remember a time when so much has come so fast in quality we only once dreamed about.

If a year, no, six months ago, someone would have told me I'd be able to spin a newly minted 4K transfer of The Keep, for instance, or Looking For Mr. Goodbar or The Searchers or The Terminator or, yes, even The Abyss, Aliens and True Lies I'd probably have smiled and asked, what color is the sky in your world.

Looks like it might be blue.
After all these years it is still thrilling to shuck the cellophane off the case of a newly released title and add to the library. Have always been a mail order type but we do enjoy the annual Barnes & Noble Criterion Collection purchase in November.
