and probably my favorite CC title "When A Woman Ascends The Stairs"
Les Fantomes De La Liberte, such a strange and wonderful movie. Saw it in HD last month, I do hope this mean's a Blu-ray release either from Criterion or someone in Europe

From what I remember, Solaris was his response to 2001. you can see Solaris is built on the more human ideas not in 2001.

They can be a bit bizzare, but always with satirical context (consumersism, technology..) I hope Mon Oncle gets the next Tati upgrade.

I felt that way. The film focuses a lot more on emotions. Tarkovsky actually said how 2001: A Space Odyssey felt unexpressive and emotionless to him.

I just saw Moonrise Kingdom this afternoon. This was W. Anderson's best film to date IMO. A touching tale of two adolescents first experience with love.

This should make a wonderful addition to the CC assuming it is added. (a safe bet as just about all of his films are in the collection)

I will be seeing this on Saturday.
Considering I like early Anderson (bottle rocket, rushmore, royal Tenenbaums) more than artifice laden Darjeeling Anderson, what are my chances of loving this?

@ABDrewes

I'd say if you like Wes at all you will love the film.

I took my father along to see MK. He is not into Indie's or foreign films at all and he loved it. (I showed him Bottle Rocket a long time ago and he didn't have much of a response to it, though he seems to be growing in his appreciation of serious films)

The comparisons between the two only cement in my mind that together they are the two greatest Scifi films. They provide the full spectrum: universal human emotions to the unknown.

That's what I keep hearing..... (considering the timing and reception i keep thinking of Midnight in paris) woody Allens newest isnt giving him the best reviews.

Yah, if you're interested in Grad school you'd have seen them already.

What are some titles that are similar to Ozu's Tokyo Story and Late Spring? I really love the depiction of family in those films. I know Ozu has another film in a semi-trilogy of films, so I could check that one out. I only mention this because When A Woman Ascends the Stairs sort of reminds me of that same idea.

You might want to check on Blu-ray The Makioka Sisters by Kon Ichikawa. It also seem like an Ozu movie.

Some of the earlier movies by Kenji Mizoguchi but the themes are a little bit darker and not as feel good as Ozu

Other great Ozu movies Late Autunm, Tokyo Twillight, The End Of Summer and his silent movie Tokyo Chorus

Make Way for Tomorrow (not on blu-ray from Criterion -- however, it has been released on bd by MoC) and Still Walking.

The Music Room will not disappoint, the comparisons to Citizen Kane are totally warranted.

I'm curious to how safe a bet this is considering that Moonrise Kingdom is a Focus Features (Universal) release. They've yet to let any of their films into the collection yet and with Fox taking Fantastic Mr. Fox under their own wing for home video, I'd be surprised if Universal don't do the same here.

Looking through that...I want to ask what the opinions on Sweetie are on here. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I want to see it...and I never see it talked about on here.
