Yup. Insane week for sure. I just added the Cell remembering how disturbing D’Onofrio was in it. The 4K looks outstanding according to the review once you journey into his mind.

^guys, bare in mind that the Cell has possible authoring issues. I bought it too, and I’m ok with it, but your mileage may vary.
Apparently, the included director’s cut has skipped frames and duplicate frames.

The way I see it, the this cut is only 2 minutes longer than theatrical, so I’m ok with the theatrical as it’s unaffected. The package also includes a differently graded and formatted Blu-ray version approved by the director, so still two other versions. Apparently, Arrow are a nightmare to deal with, might just grin and bare it.

Interesting. ... I was banking on it being better than the DVD which is the only way I have seen this movie. I enjoyed it via the DVD.

I have to read up on this now ....

I've been through 3-4 disc replacement programs with Arrow and never had an issue. Did you have a bad experience with them?

I had a bad experience with them.

I had a version of Donnie Darko UHD BD which did not play correctly on my panasonic UHD players. This was easy to confirm and was part of a recall that existed for this reason.

I started trying to get it replaced through the Arrow website. There was some back and forth with what they needed in terms of images of the packaging and a few emails where I uploaded what they were asking for. They agreed I qualified for replacement and then went silent. Like 2 months later I asked them about the status and they replied it wasn't a certain special edition and they decided not to honor the replacement. Well ... it had the totally verify-able issue and we had already negotiated and a replacement had already been approved!

I did manage to rebuy the title and thankfully have a good copy now but they could have at the least let me know they changed their mind !!!!

At the time I hated them but now I see them as a good source of great content. They just have some rather poor customer service.

I had no idea they could be like that. As I said, all I had to do was register for the program and then my disc would show up.

The fires nearby have died down considerably that I might leave the house tonight and finally catch Den of Thieves 2 in Dolby Cinema. I also have tickets for Wolf Man in IMAX for Friday and The Brutalist in Laser IMAX Sunday morning. The latter will be a grand undertaking. Haven't done anything like that since the Hateful Eight Roadshow version 10 years ago. That was an amazing experience.

All of which underscores my increasing reluctance to pre-order titles. If I have to do their damn quality control for them, then they need to pay me, not the other way around.

No, just going by the supposed time it takes and the months of waiting.

The problem with that is you can miss out altogether. Most recent example, The Stone Tapes. I had to go third party and was lucky to blag it before it went out of stock altogether.

I am getting to the point where I would rather pay OOP prices for titles that are known not to be fubar than to deal with disc replacement programs, if and when they even happen.

Time is more valuable to me now than saving a little money.

Several people had trouble getting a replacement disc for the Coffin Joe boxset.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...5#post22786425

After reading all this, I never even bothered to try and get one. I have the dvd of the movie that was affected and will just keep it together with the boxset.

Oh goody, they came back in stock, so I was able to grab them. For anyone interested, the three titles were North By Northwest, Batman 89, and Batman Returns. I also picked up:

Sugarland Express - never seen this one. You guys have any thoughts?
Purple Rain
Godzilla 2014

I saw that too, but am good with the theatrical cut as well and mostly bought it for the very disturbing but gorgeous visuals…..and D’Onofrio.

The only one I can comment on is Godzilla 2014 as it is one of the top Atmos titles out there and a contender for Bass Champion if that is your sort of thing. I enjoyed the movie more so compared to the Godzilla vs Kong entries. I respect Prince’s body of work and talent, but dont have a need to own it.

4.

5.

When #s 2 and 3 get a 4K disc release I will upgrade them.

I have yet to watch Conclave, Alien: Romulus, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, A Quiet Place: Day One, or Inside Out 2, so my list might change somewhat once I do.

My best 4K disc acquisition for audio/ video presentation in 2024 was:
