I was disappointed with Ministry, but thought the acting was top notch. Also, I thought Alan Richton could be the spitting image of Aldo Ray.

Just placed my first order from the A24 Shop. Prices are reasonable for Collector's editions, but I could buy another standard 4K for the cost of shipping and tax from A24. Hopefully these collector's editions are worth it.



These will be my last purchases for a while. I will be building a new PC in the next couple of weeks and that is using all my discretionary spending for the next few months.

I will avoid Jane Sheonbrun's output going forward.. I know her movies have been very well received, so it's me, not her LOL... but she's been a really hard 0 for 2 with me. I just don't get it...

My daughter and I LOVED HERETIC! It's criminal that Hugh Grant's reputation as a bit of a dick precluded him from getting recognized... I wasn't sure what to make of the fact that, when the movie was over, my daughter turned to me and said "dad... you ARE THAT GUY" as she laughed maniaclly...

She later clarified

I Saw the TV Glow is the only movie I've seen by her but I really enjoyed it.

Heretic is a blind buy but can't imagine not liking it.

Her other film, WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD'S FAIR, was very well received as well so you may want to look into it if you liked I SAW THE TV GLOW....

Given the increasing reduction in physical sales what's the current school of thought on how we're all going to cope when our only choice for watching certain movies is very highly compressed, low bit rate streams due to a lack of physical availability?

Maybe some streamers will step up to the plate and offer a service that is at least the equivalent of using a Blu-ray disc? I think Sony already does this but it's only compatible with their TV sets? A very good fiber connection will of course be a prime requirement.

I for one am going to very badly miss physical discs.

I streamed both and loved the "look" of each for completely different reasons.

I have HERETIC on UHD and will revisit it soon as I can only imagine how fantastic this dark digitally shot film will look. As I recall, the stream was razor sharp with a ton of shadow detail.. The disc will hopefully improve on this.

ANORA has the beautiful look of a movie shot on film... The stream had what I perceived to be an elevated black level and a softness to it. It's a cracker of a film so I can't wait to revisit it on disc to see if the softness and blacks were the intended look or a limitation of the stream..

Either way, both movies are highly recommended from me (for what that's worth LOL)

I think, that for the most part, we're still receiving notices for titles that I will care to keep and rewatch for years to come... and thus archive...

If my library of these is not yet 100% complete, it's pretty much getting there..it's at least at a point where I'm never starved for something to watch.

As far as newer, mostly digitally shot fare, I think the tech is there, given enough bandwith, to display it at a more than acceptable quality.... Of course, the will to do so is a matter of money...

I'm hoping that there will be an expanded role for something like KALEIDASCAPE in my future...

That has been, is and will continue. I have quite a few titles on disc that is not available via streaming per JustWatch.

Sony does but that is to promote sales of their hardware. What is the incentive for a streamer to spend more money when the world is appears quite happy with < 5 Mbps for content?

Absolutely not a requirement. Adequate bandwidth between you and the CDN is the most important parameter for top tier streaming. See my chart, the bandwidth is a fair amount less than a speed test between me and a remote server. A speed test between you and your ISP tells you nothing about what you can expect from a CDN.

The Last Mile Connection is very important IMO Fiber is the Gold Standard. Yes connecting to the CDN is crucial for Solid Streaming, so an ISP connecting to the Fiber Backbone should give you the Superhighway you need!

K’scape would be my solution, but the future you are talking about is not imminent in my opinion.

In October of 2018 I tried to show posters (here) the difference between a speed test and what one could expect from a CDN. At the time Netflix was about the only way to do this. I believe most here, except one , get the gist of the concept.

Also have tried to point out the real improvement in streaming has come from many more local cache and edge servers installed. The content from digital lockers has not changed but the bandwidth to them has improved some. Will retest in April to see if there are any changes in the last two years.

Just resubscribed to Peacock for a year for $29.99. This is the plan with ads, but I added the ad-free tier for $6 per month a la carte. Prorated that brings my one year total to $8.49, which is a deal.

Blade II is up there in 4K DV.

I have read that AppleTV+ streams at greater bandwidth to Apple devices, including AppleTV boxes. (And perhaps even non-Apple services stream at higher bandwidth utilizing Apple CDNs on the AppleTV box? Not sure.)

But the last time I saw numbers was a couple of years ago so no idea if those numbers at all reflect current Apple reality and/or if other services and streaming devices are catching up in increased bandwidth. Still I doubt any service is hitting 100Mb like I saw watching THE SEARCHERS 4K last night. Do they even hit 1/3rd of that?
