You're right. What's going on there right now won't speed up getting these titles released.

It's a shame that tomorrow will be 1 year since the last Godzilla film was released on Blu.
Kind of stinks for those who didn't get the DVDs for whatever reason. I heard decent things about the Blus.

Very true. Godzilla would've been the worse choice in entertainment even if the earthquake was all that happen. With the tsunami, it would've been worse. With the threat of a nuclear meltdown looming, seriously bad choice of films, a huge maybe for the late, goofy Showa films. Yeah, if we don't see Godzilla for a while because of this, that will be just fine with me.

Which would make sense. I'm gonna hold off on the DVDs and Blu-rays for it. I'm sure they'll pop out of big box set on blu.

I read about the whole restoration process on Sci-Fi Japan back in 2008 when they were getting ready to run the HD masters on tv in Japan.

I want this so badly on Blu-ray. You have no idea how badly I want this:
I really want Prophecies of Nostradamus on home video badly as well. I have the said Japanese version and it's such a great, underlooked film. It really deserves the Criterion treatment.

Anyone looking forward to Destroy All Monsters or Godzilla vs. Megalon?

I for one cannot wait.

I'm buying it, as long as Media Blasters doesn't delay it. As soon as tax season arrives, I'm blowing half of it on the Japanese Godzilla Blu-rays.

Yeah really. What ever happened to Toho releasing the rest of the Godzilla films? They've been pretty quiet over there.

I think they're saving the release of the rest of the films until the new US Godzilla comes out.

I don't think they would alter their schedule around what is released over here.

I'm more inclined to believe the rumors of disappointing sales.

There was an eBay auction for Gojira 84 and it was $59.99 and I got outbidded and it ended at $76 + $3 = $79 for a used copy.

NO English Subs! Since I don't Read or Speak Japanese, these releases are useless for me. Plus they are a bit TOO pricey for my blood!

If I was to get ONE of these, having never really seen any Godzilla (but planning on getting the Criterion in January), which would you guys recommend? I was thinking Godzilla 1984, Godzilla vs. Biollante or Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla based on the read-ups I have been doing.

The 1974 film, Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla. That is the classic Godzilla film for me.

Godzilla 2000 has been a favorite of mine since it came out. The films resemble the Bond movies in a way: started serious, then got sort of comical, then got really cheesy in the 70s when Godzilla became a good guy, dwindled a bit in the 80s, got back on track in the 90s, then was reinvented as serious again in the 2000s.

It started off serious with Godzilla 2000 but became flat and unoriginal. GMK is way too over-rated mainly because Godzilla is the true villain he originally once was. Megaguirus started off interesting but just; "Blah!" The Mechagodzilla sequels were a let down. Tokyo SOS is really a hard one to sit through and since Tokyo SOS was a BOMB and fans were let down, that was the final nail and then we got Godzilla: Final Wars which was the biggest misfire I've ever seen.

You want to know what my biggest problem was with this series; MOTHRA! They played it too safe by going that route and throwing Mothra, Mechagodzilla, and various other re-used monsters. With Godzilla 2000 and Megaguirus it was refreshing to see new monsters. Then with Godzilla: Final Wars it was like; "Monster X ... damn!" There was nothing new in three of the six films that they made.
