TRON (1982)
Kind of fun to watch. I can understand both the appeal and hate of this movie. It's truly ambitious and it does deliver if you want it to, but only if you're into this kind of stuff (or saw it as a kid when it was released). 7/10 I had to watch it before the sequel came out, which I'm going to see mainly because Olivia Wilde stars in it! |

Mediocre would be too much praise.
![]() Downey and Law had great chemistry. Great sets, effects and costumes. But the story was zzzzzzzzzzzz. What a mess. I bailed after approximately 90 minutes. I just never cared about any of it. 2/5 |

New Moon
5/10 Some nice set peices, a few neat ideas about vampires having special abilities really had me intrigued. The problem is the word love can only be used so many times in a few hours before I just tune out all the dialog. Not worth watching more than once. |

Avatar in imax 3D.
Film: 3 stars (out of 4), although I'm tempted to give it 3 1/2. Best picture nomination quality? Depends on the year. In a week one like last year and with 10 nominees, definitely. In a year like last year, with 15 solid films? Definitely not. A very good film but absolutely not best picture material. Experience: Undoubtedly the best movie experience I've ever had. I consider watching great movies to be great experiences, and I consider watching high quality blu rays to be great experiences. However, seeing this film in this format was quite honestly mind-boggling. I sat next to a 60 year old man who said "wow" 5 seconds into the film, and then said it probably three dozen times more throughout the film. The depth, color, and picture clarity were astounding. The film is a combination of Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, the Pocahontas myth, and even Ferngully. It's a very familiar plot. However, I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Character development and dialogue were weaker than other Cameron films, despite that not being a strength of his. However, I actually cared about the characters which is a major feat when there's a lack of character development. The visual sights and creativity were astounding and immediately involving. There was such an evident beauty to the world that Cameron created, that for a split second I actually understood those crazy people who've sought therapy due to the realization that Pandora is not real. I'm interested to see what I'll think of the film when I see it on blu (which I fully expect to be reference picture and sound). It's a very entertaining film and I'm sure I'll buy it and enjoy it. However, I highly doubt it'll have as much of a lasting impact on me as a film as Aliens, Titanic, or the Abyss (which is funny, since Duncan Jones [director of Moon] caught a lot of slack for saying that Avatar isn't even in Cameron's top 3--which I fully agree with). Those three films are each much better than Avatar. However, the experience of seeing this film in such a way as I did today is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. |

Nice review Jhiggy^^
I just saw Inglorious Basterds yesterday I would rate it this: [Show spoiler] Quentin is definitely an actors director, I really liked how QT spent a lot of time in the performances, long scenes and great dialogue. Christoph Waltz definitely deserved that GG made me feel weird and uncomfortable enjoying such a sadistic character. I have to say that this is his best movie yet, yes I prefer it over Pulp Fiction ![]() Last edited by Q?; 02-13-2010 at 03:36 PM. |
