I bought the movie only one from amazon and it showed up and was the uk version. I know it plays in my blu ray player but does it have PAL speedup?

That's not an issue on Blu-ray. All versions are 1080p. 1080p in the US is 1080p in the UK.

Not always true. Some 1080 from the UK can be 1080i50 or 1080p25 (like the Torchwood sets) and won't play in some American players (most notably the PS3).

Still, if something is film-based and not video-based, it is nearly always 1080p24 (23.976 or 24 fps), which is compatible with all countries.

^ It's a very nice set. Having said that, if you're blind buying it's a whole lotta gear for a film you might think is meh.

I love the film and have ever since it was released so this set was a no brainer for me. Seeing as though the film only release is coming out in a month it might be better if you rented or bought that version. If you like it then you can always buy the collector's edition. If you don't, well then you've only paid to rent it or you have the standalone which you can sell off to make some $$$ back.

Awesome set though!

The Goonies Blu-ray, Special Features and Extras

Commentary - in this hilarious commentary director Richard Donner, actors Jonathan Ke Quan (Data), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Sean Astin (Mikey), Kerri Green (Andy), Martha Plimpton (Stef), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), and Josh Brolin (Brand) recall their work on The Goonies, how specific scenes were shot, etc. In English, with optional English SDH, French, Dutch, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles.

Hidden Treasures - a pop-up video version (the director and cast occasionally show up in a small box in the right corner of the screen) of the audio commentary (114 min, 1080p).

The Making of The Goonies - a standard featurette, produced in 1985, in which Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg address the production process. Raw footage from the shooting of the film is also included. In English, with optional English SDH, French, Dutch, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles. (7 min, 480/60i).

Deleted Scenes - a collection of deleted scenes. In English, with optional English SDH, French, Dutch, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles. (7 min, 480/60i).

Music Video - Cindi Lauper's classic video "The Goonies R Good Enough". (13 min, 480/60i).

Trailer - the original theatrical trailer for The Goonies. (3 min, 480/60i).

Booklet - a massive illustrated souvenir magazine (with 150 photos and art) telling the complete movie story.

Steven Spielberg Presents... - a reprint of an original article from 2009, guest-edited by Steven Spielberg, which contains updates on the cast of The Goonies, as well as producer Steven Spielberg and director Richard Donner.

Storyboard Prints - ten collectible storyboard prints housed in a large envelope.

Board Game - an exclusive 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition board game.

Why is this unauthrorized?

The Making of a Cult Classic: The Unauthorized Story of 'The Goonies' (Video 2010)

Why are the storyboards cut?

Why are there comic books and a magazine, but no actual hardback copies?

What happened to the interviews from 1985 with the cast? Is that in the making of documentary?

Just bought it today. I think I may have seen it on TV when I was very young, but I don't remember. It will be like my first time with it. I bought Super 8 earlier this week and with all the comparisons to The Goonies as well as other flicks from Spielberg's 80's heyday I figured it would be a good idea to see it for myself. I know I'll probably enjoy it. Now, BRING ON E.T.

I bought also with Super 8, The Three Amigos and Pee-wee's Big Adventure . Those are also around the same time, 1985 and 1986. I don't plan on buying The Goonies anytime soon. I saw it on television again when it aired I believe in the late '80s when I had time. Unfortunately I had not been as fond of it those years.

Indeed. In fact, I'd do a triple feature of these three movies (after I unearth my copy of E.T. DVD somewhere ) soon.

E.T. should be coming to Blu soon enough. If Jaws is coming and Indiana Jones? Then E.T. can't be far behind.

Yeah, definitely next year-- it will be its 30th (already?!!) anniversary after all-- and it better have a box set that will put The Goonies box set to shame (including a CD soundtrack to the movie perhaps; I love John Williams' score to E.T.).

This thing has beautiful package art by the way. Even though it's the same Blu-Ray that was available by itself before, the surrounding package is gorgeous. It's the same setup as the HP Ultimate Editions.

It will. I'm quite sure of it. Classic Spielberg films coming to Blu are a big deal and the studios know that. They'll put out big box sets for the diehards and Blu-Ray only or Blu/DVD combs for the casual watchers.

I haven't bought any of the HP Ultimate editions yet (waiting for the inevitable Ultimate Ultimate box set of all HP films next year).

I KNOW! I am so ticked at Warners for that little stunt. I have the first 2 as Ultimate Editions and the last 3 as regular Blu/DVD combos. I'll most likely get the "definitive" (yeah sure, play it for all it's worth Warners, nobody buys it) set when it comes out next year as long as it has the seven-part documentary they were doing for the UEs.

Yeah, that's the one I really want to see. I hope they'll put all seven docs in two Blu-Rays so we don't have to keep switching discs to watch all seven. I'm lazy!
