I genuinely love all 4 films. Each one offers something different. I'm glad it goes down as Craven's final feature film as director, rather than My Soul to Take.
Scream 2 might be the greatest horror sequel of all time IMO, when comparing to the original entry. I think the main issue people have with 3 is it sort of undermines the first one in terms of what jump started their reasons for killing in the first place, meaning it wasn't their idea, they were pawns for someone else. I liked it though. It's all connected and we learn things along with our main character. Oh, and Courtney Cox's bangs. I don't harp on them as much, but my wife does haha. |

The main problem with Scream 3 is that it plays down the horror and tension in favour of comedy, which unfortunately isn't that funny. That was because Columbine had happened not long before and the studio demanded for the violence and horror elements to be reduced. It's also noticeable that this is the only one of the four films not written by Kevin Williamson, the tone isn't right and it lacks the wit and invention of the other films. Parker Posey is fun and I like the central premise of having it take place during the shoot of a Stab sequel, it's just not executed that well. |

[Show spoiler] are my definition of comedy that isn't that funny. Hayden Panettiere was the only thing that worked in that regard, same as Parker Posey in 3. Of course, [Show spoiler] was pretty smart and the one aspect that saves the film and makes it slightly better than part 3.

Scream 4 came out eleven years after the third one, and thoroughly tanked. You expect ANYONE to show up for a fifth one ten+ years after that with a 50-year-old Neve Campbell and without Wes Craven directing?
Like the Halloween series, this has run its course...just let it rest in peace. |

Halloween 2018 was widely successful. And has been said by many to be the best sequel in a long time. So your analogy is incorrect. As for Scream 4, I really enjoyed it. I'll gladly watch a Scream 5 with the original cast back. |
