I'm not sure why it's any more unlikely that they'd be using "the F-word" than using the words "king", "sword", "dwarf", "wolf", or "winter". In the world that the show is set in, they don't speak English. "The F-word" is nothing more than an English translation of whatever their word for copulation is.

How much u enjoy AFFC totally depends on two things: Who ur a fan of and how u read the books. I really enjoy Brianne and Arya who were heavily featured in 4 and back at the end of 5 so it didnt bother me. If I was big on Tyrion or Daenerys fan I would have been pissed at AFFC. Also it depends how u read it. I read them all after watching the show on HBO so there was a short time between 4 and 5. If I were reading them as written and an original fan, it was four years between SoS and AFFC and six more til ADWD. If I were a Tyrion fan and had to wait ten years to see what he was up to I would have been very angry.

As I mentioned above, it depends how u read them. If u read them all consecutively like I did, the format wasnt so bad. If u were reading them on release, the format would have been agonizing. Martin must have made some changes with the new format. Davros was good example of how he used the format to his advantage. Some things also work better in a book than they will on tv.
[Show spoiler]It was easy to keep Whitebeards identity a secret on the written page but it is hard to believe he wont be recognized on the show.

There's no doubt that those coming to the books now, or at least in the past couple years (like me) are getting off relatively easy with regard to AFFC and ADWD. I can't imagine waiting ten years to find out about some of my favorite characters. As it was, the two books read like a gigantic epic split into two narratives (not unlike the Lord of the Rings books, after the fellowship splits apart). But to wait for 6 years in between would have pissed me off too.

Even if Martin takes his sweet time with future installments (I hope not), we at least have the HBO series. Long time book fans (from the beginning) did not have that luxury.

And u can always revisit. Im currently working my way thru the Wheel of Time books for the ungteenth time. Im sure I will do the same with SoI&F during the nine months the show is in hiatus. All that will make it much easier waiting for book 6.

It appears that Best Buy has dropped their pre-order price down to $34.99 on your choice of limited covers and keychain.

I knew they would drop the prices down lower. I'm just waiting for the actual release in stores to pick it up. Maybe it will get lower, who knows.

Sticking with the magnificent image of Ned Stark on the Iron Throne. Glad it's going to be down to $35.

Does Best Buy have a similar pre-order guarantee like Amazon? I pre-ordered one @ $44.99 and I'm wondering if I have to cancel and re-order it.

Yes.

Quote:
Q: Can you ensure the price listed at the time the pre-order is placed will remain the same?

A: Yes and no. When a price is assigned to a pre-ordered item, we are reasonably certain it will remain at that price. However, from time to time — given how far in advance we make items available to our customers — a price change will occur. If this happens, you will always receive the lower of the two prices. For example, if you order an item for $49.99 and the pre-order price is later dropped to $39.99, you will be charged only $39.99. If you ordered the item at $49.99 and the price rises to $59.99, you still pay only $49.99. When you place a pre-order, you are assured our lowest pre-release price.

The Best Buy order screen is only allowing the key-chain to be picked up in-store. Did that happen for everyone else as well?

Yes. Doesn't bother me personally (I'll just swing by and grab it on my way home from work that day) but the option to get it shipped was grayed out.

I'd rather pick it up in-store anyway. I can't count the number of times box sets I've ordered online from Best Buy or Amazon have arrived with smashed-in corners. They never seem to account for the added weight and it gets banged around in shipping. If you go there you're guaranteed to get a box that's in perfect condition.

Eh, I'm not really interested in the key-chain anyways. If I got it, it would just be stored away in a shoe-box and never seen.

I don't really care either, it's not like I'll use it or anything but I figured what the Hell, it's free. I'm picking it up in-store anyway because if I order anything that weighs more than a feather it seems to show up damaged half the time.

Got my preorder in with Amazon at the $34.99 price. I actually prefer the original cover and I like the fact that it has the Targaryen and Stark design on the sides with the picture of Ned Stark on the throne made with swords.

Wow, that's awesome that the price was lowered to $34.99. Very happy about that. I assume that Amazon will automatically charge me the $34.99 price instead of the $44.99 due to pre-order price guarantee.

It should change your order automatically...or pretty soon. Just go check your order history...
