Am I the only one troubled by the fact that Dracula is the only film that references "restoration"? It would be such a shame if Universal rushed this release without restoring the other films as well.

I actually noticed a similar situation for the Hitchcock box set, where only three of the films offered BD-Live/Pocket Blu functions (which, to me, indicates that only they have received an overhaul).

Most of these films have been showing on Sky Movies in HD for ages. I don't have Sky Movies or Sky HD. My mother did, & when I visited her I always had a sneak peek, & they always looked good, will these look the same? I think the early ones are never going to look that fantastic as the original elements are long, long gone.

At the beginning of the centennial year they specifically mentioned restoring 13 films
"Major Film Restoration Commitment

Universal will restore 13 films over the course of the centennial year. The restoration effort includes the following films: All Quiet on the Western Front, The Birds, Buck Privates, Dracula (1931), Dracula Spanish (1931), Frankenstein, Jaws, Schindler's List, Out of Africa , Pillow Talk, Bride of Frankenstein, The Sting and To Kill a Mockingbird."

So at least 4 have been restored. I am sure all of them had some work, but perhaps not full restoration.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Universal is just starting to build up a better reputation with their releases now that they stopped the whole dnr and lossy trend on their releases. The last thing that they need from a set of this magnitude is negative fan reaction to it.

Oh that's right...the world is scheduled to end later this year, thusly rendering saving for college obsolete! Woooohoooo! Daddy is now flush!

I've got to hand it to Universal, this appears to be a fantastic set. Let's just hope the typical Universal over processing doesn't become an issue! Fingers crossed!

Hope they include the fantastic 'Universal Horror' doc.

My only caveat is it doesn't include 'Frankenstein vs the Wolfman'.

I'm not an authourity on the topic, but I would think Son of Frankenstein would be biggest and/or most desired sequel that didn't make this set?

You read my mind. First thing I thought when I saw this set (and the only thing keeping me from selling off my Frankenstein Legacy set) is where the heck is Son of Frankenstein? Not that I thought it would actually make the cut, but it's a personal favorite sequel of mine. Gotta love Basil Rathbone and the wooden armed cop.

For everyone complaining about the sequels not being included, the boxset is clearly called "the ESSENTIAL Collection". I'm sure there will be a boxset along the road with the sequels. But if all the sequels were included, it would've been one enormous expensive convoluted boxset. Be happy we at least have the classic titles out for now..

I admire the picture but I do find it very stagy. I thought it was very static. Even though it was released the same year as Frankenstein, the latter seems a lot more polished.

I actually like the Spanish version quite a bit. However Bela is brilliant. I prefer it without the awful Glass score.

Glad to see It Came From Outer Space is part of the 100 and the Incredible Shrinking Man.

All those who talk well about Son of Frankenstein I agree completely. It's a beautiful shot, bizarre looking film.
