since some want to see the original cast as their older selves here is part of the story

Always grumpy Harrison Ford plays an old Han Solo who is an abusive husband to Carrie Fisher,Princess Leia, an in and out of rehab pill popping drunk. Mark Hamill as an Older Luke Skywalker who gets arrested for sexually molesting Jedi younglings. Chewbacca and Yoda are living together in a homeless shelter. C3P0 and R2D2 have been recycled as iphones. ...and finally Mitt Romney as the Emperor who promises to restore order to the Empire.

That's a wrap!

Joss Whedon's skills saved the avengers.

It is the complete saga, the Complete Skywalker Saga, IMO of course, which to me is the only true George Lucas Star Wars, I love Star Wars, I'm a loyal fan, but I'm a little heart broken, the George Lucas era is over, the man who brought us this amazing space saga is done with it, and I truly am sad!

He's such an influential director that came up with such an original idea, and it has influenced nearly every film-maker since then. I can't understand why people really do give Lucas such a hard time.
George Lucas is a good storyteller, he has alot of imagination, but in truth he isn't that good of a director. Out of every good Star Wars movie, he has directed only one. Don't get me wrong, I respect Lucas for bringing Star Wars the original trilogy to our lives, but I don't see him as a good director.

Disney has informed us that even though George won't be directing the movies, he will still act as consultant so he can affect the story somehow.

Btw now that this info has gotten more into me, I admit I have more good feeling about this than before. Disney also has the rights for Marvel and recently all the Marvel movies have been good actually. (Avengers, Thor, Captain American, Iron Man) So yeah, I might have some hope that the coming Star Wars Episode 7 could be good, but I wish they would choose some other storyline than would continue after Return of the Jedi.

If they bring reborn Emperor to the movies I will go mad.

Exactly - as messy as the prequels were, they were technically well made and had solid thematic content. Lucas did rush them, trying to fit bits together that weren't flush, therefore making it seem more disjointed than it should have been.

Stop me if I'm wrong. But I thought Fox owns the distribution rights to Star Wars Episodes 1-6? So wouldn't that mean that Disney CAN'T release the unaltered trilogy?

Fox do own the distribution rights, but only on certain things - I'm not sure if Disney will be able to get around it in some ways, or certain territories, but they'll probably come to some sort of deal --

hell, Disney will probably just pay Fox to hand over the rights.

Yes, it kind of does. I can't believe Disney now own some of the largest companies in Hollywood. They buy anymore and they might have sell some so they don't have complete monopoly over the industry

I am just at a loss for words, I am excited and yet a little sad at the same time. I am excited for new movies in the series, I actually liked the prequels. I am not so sure what to think about how this will affect Indy though.

I don't know if Disney could offer Fox enough money in the world to grab the distribution rights.

Fox has to know that a new Trilogy and new media and merchandise will give sales a huge bump.

If anything, they'll reach an agreement that gives both sides something they want. We'll see what happens.

I've been wondering about that for some time - a remake seems difficult to imagine as it is one of those truly iconic movies, but it would be interesting.

How quickly they forget. Such an ungrateful pack.

Because they never got SW in the first place. If anyone wishes for a Star Wars movie directed by Nolan, Fincher or co., then what's that got to do with Star Wars anymore? Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada!

The Star Wars Saga is magic, and I'll be eternally grateful to George Lucas.
time for another marathon!

Exactly my thoughts.

Nobody can take that away from us though, so what can we lose!?

Steven Spielberg should do a great job with episode 7.

He didn't have it in him? What are you talking about? He started writing Episode I in 1994. He didn't finish the prequels until 2005. That's 11 ****ing years to devote to something that he has no interest in.

I swear, some Star Wars fans are just that delusional when it comes to the so-called atrocity's Lucas has done to the franchise.

Grow the hell up.
he didnt have it in him = the creative well had run dry. Everyone knows this except the Lucas Legionaires who refuse to admit he used up his one or two good ideas in the 80s and was never the same since. Delusional? Not me.

That's the new phrase I'm using to describe Star Wars always from now on -- Star Walt. Love it!

They've been doing "Star Wars/Disney" toys for a few years already.

He had lots of creative ideas -- even the prequels show that -- but, unfortunately, he just couldn't piece them in the correct way to make the story logical. I'm not a "Lucas Legionaire" by any stretch of the imagination, but I do accept how much he has done for cinema as a whole. He wasn't a bad director and wasn't a "childhood raper" either - he was simply a man who wanted to share his vision with the world, and constantly tried to better that vision as the technology became available to do so.

As Jumpman put it, "thank you, George, for everything you have done for cinema."
