Same with Tom Cruise -- if it's not Mission: Impossble he is not putting butts in seats. Diesel gets by because he lucked into a lead roll in a franchise that people love, but I don't know anyone who sits around talking about how they can't wait for the next Vin Diesel Joint. He tried again with Riddick and XXX but nobody cares.

Same with Hobbs & Shaw -- if it hadn't been about those characters from that franchise, how much business would it have done simply based on Johnson and Stathem's names alone? Not nearly as much, I'd wager.
I'm certainly not arguing w/you on that front. Oddly enough I was thinking that very same thing when watching the Superbowl Spot for the upcoming Maverick. Old character to revisit all these years later. Certainly has the potential to due big business, but how big we will see come this summer. Also, Johnson is a very smart businessman and he knows his box office days are numbered to a certain extent. He certainly keeps himself out there by cranking out movie after movie. No doubt he works hard and if they hit, well everyone wins, if its a stinker, well he's got the next lined up. Will Smith is another example. He took a gamble with Aladdin and it paid off. He went with Gemini Man and that bombed. Now he's been Mr. Top Box office for the past three weeks with Bad Boys for Life. Johnson has yet to grab that crown as of yet.....

Yeah, I'm betting that the 80s nostalgia pandemic we've been experiencing over the last few years will carry the new Top Gun to success, but I'll be extremely surprised if it ends up being a blockbuster. For one thing, the trailer(s) so far make it look like a straight drama about an aging pilot staring down retirement rather than a youth-targeted action movie, which is how the original was marketed and is remembered. That sort of thing doesn't generally set the box office on fire.

Nah, they are just throwing everything including the kitchen sink at this thing for the penultimate go-round. Han is back, and Lucas Black is joining the team.

Who wants to make a bet that Han isn't really Han? He's actually Han's never before mentioned brother who's appeared to take revenge for his bro's murder?

At this point nothing would surprise me with F&F. It's the telenovela of American action movie series. One day film historians will look back and write books about the brilliance of F&F as deadpan genre parody. I love it.

I have to agree. But, this is typical of muscle headed buffoons.

Diesel is also struggling to really land much else other than this as a franchise. Blood Shot is a wait and see but Johnson clearly has many movies he has in the pipework. Jumanji, Black Adam, Hobbs & Shaw sequel perhaps etc.
I think Diesel has much more than just the Fast and Furious franchise. He also has the Riddick franchise not to mention The Last Witch Hunter (which the sequels have languished in development, much like the Riddick series had been until Fast and Furious became a monster hit for the studio.

I suspect that once the final Fast and Furious film is finished, that he'll start getting more opportunities for new franchises. Also, let's not forget that he also has the upcoming Bloodshot movie coming up, another franchise based on the Valiant Comics superhero.

I don't find that surprising, at all. I haven't seen a single movie that starred a WWE wrestler that showed good acting skills. The only reason Johnson has been getting all of these movie roles is because he's a major box office draw. Hell, all he has to do is appear in a movie (with no dialogue) and it'll be a huge hit. It's all those steroids that WWE stars had taken during their time with the WWE.

They're going to play around with the timeline and the twist will be that the Han parts take place in the past and the non-Han parts take place in the present. And the target audience will be confused as hell and never understand it, thus ending the franchise.

In the tenth movie, there will be 45 characters from the all the previous movies -- good guys, bad guys, characters that died but now they're alive again -- joining forces to fight one villain. One big happy FAMILY!

Michelle Rodriguez uses the Back To The Future Car and gets Han from days before his death and brings him to present 2010-2012 (whatever year they're in now) and messing up time causes dinosaurs to be brought to the present.

In Fast10 Your Seat Belts I want them all to be vacationing on an island with a volcano and it erupts and Dom and Leti do their big car stunt of them using the car to fly over the volcano shooting lava.

They'll stop making these movies when they stop being profitable.

Paramount was originally tabbed to make 14 more Bayformers movies, but they stopped at 5 because of The Last Knight tanking/underperforming, and yes, TLK actually reportedly lost Paramount up to $100 mil when marketing, distribution and all other costs are factored in.

Riddick 4: Furya looks like being the final film in the '4 film trilogy'. It was never anything more than a cult success, so that franchise is over once the final film comes out...
