"Media Target Distribution Gmbh" is (as the name implies) the distributor. They distribute some german indie labels like "Subkultur", "Filmart", "Edition Filmclub" and probably are most-well known for distributing the Jörg Buttgereit films ("Nekromantik"). Just do a search for "Media Target Distribution Gmbh" at amazon.de and you'll see.
So to answer your question, if its says "Media Target" it is the Subkultur disc (the disc you linked is the right one, its the standard edition in a keep case, Digipak (same BD + DVD/Booklet): http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00AA7GWH8/). The first release was by "Black Hill" (upscale!) and was distributed by Koch Media, the new "Explosive Media" disc (Scanners Trilogy, UK/Aussie Master, region B locked, no specials features) is distributed by "Alive AG".... so you see, its all very easy ![]() Last edited by KowalskiVideo; 06-27-2014 at 02:56 PM. |

No both were limited (and sold out @ distributor), but only the digipak was numbered. Subkultur always does limited runs (like twilight time) in small quantities (like 1000 to 1500 copies). I don't think the Standard Case is still in print (it may have been till end of 2013) but since "Explosive" took over the rights and came out with their own release in early 2014, it can't be still in print.

It has to be said, they're only comparing it with the lesser of the European releases, which we all know look pants anyway.

for me the screens of the german bluray look "better" on my laptop screen. thats as far as i would judge both releases with only screencaps on a not calbirated screen
![]() the criterion might look great on my projector. (or not). but it would be wrong to judge the release only froms ome screens... i didnt like the screens of "thief" since it looked "odd" as well with all that "tiel" , but i liked the look of it in montion on the big screen. the koch bluray does indeed look color boosted and "greenish" like beaver says. for Scanners it looks like we cant go wrong with getting 2 releases anyway. cuz of the bonus features.... Does the Trilogy set from Alive feature the same transfer as Subkultur? As I don't have the other two films and it doesn't seem to be too much more.
Edit: Just saw the information above. Last edited by FelixFlankin; 06-27-2014 at 05:51 PM. |

No, like the 10th time... the trilogy set by Explosive uses the UK/Aussie master and adds bad compression (looks worse than the UK/Aussie disc!) has no special features and is region B looked. The Subkultur disc is region free, use the MGM protection master and has the Stephan Lack interview (which Criterion licensed from Subkultur).

I don't know if the new documentary on the Criterion touches on it, but it would be nice if they'd included a piece on Cronenberg's involvement in this edition and his choice of colour timing as (from the captures, at least) it appears to be quite a departure from the other versions. Personally, I've nothing against directors continuing to fiddle with their films, though they should bear in mind the painters' maxim about stopping, but equal weight should be given to approximating the look of the theatrical release. If this means two discs, good.
