I would happily pay Aniplex prices for one of the anime classics, as long as its not $1000.
I put $5 on Harmony Gold.

You could just imagine the reaction that would get Pitchforks at the ready!

Luckily there can't be any Japanese studios who would even consider working with Evil Inc these days surely.

Just imagine if they nabbed US rights to the Ghibli catalogue... and merged Grave of the Fireflies and My Neighbor Totoro into Grave of the Totoro. Or Laputa and Howl into Castle Extravaganza. Or Ocean Waves and From Up On Poppy Hill into High School Mellerdrammer.

...I'm going to stop now.

More on topic, I am still loving the Evangelion set. Watched a few episodes I already know by heart and have not been disappointed. Timing subtitles should be so much fun coming up.

I lack the skill and patience to mux in my own subtitles.

I hope AoA get their hands on this. Am willing to pay the Aniplex premium for a flawless AV presentation with subtitles. This is one of my all time favorite shows and I would hate to see the plebs over at Funi or Sentai mess this one up.

Funi has the movies. They'll have first dibs on this, and they'd be insane not to grab it like they did with bebop.

It's a fool's errand even hoping otherwise.

where is 3.33? its been two years besides I don't think Anno et al wants one company in the US to have all of it anyway. Given the fallout of ADV probably left a bad taste in their mouth with whole LA Eva which starred rose or whatever the Asuka impostor was named.

Yeah, when the hell is this thing going to be released?

They sold it a few weeks over here on dvd, but then it got pulled because they wanted to play it a while longer in the cinemas.

I don't like 3.33 very much, but I'm a completionist.

Start preparing yourself now for the eventual disappointment. That way when it finally gets a crappy release in 2018, you won't be surprised.

That statement about "overwhelming theatrical demand" was complete bullshit. They didn't really add more theaters (And not once did it ever go wide, so theaters weren't bending over backwards trying to get it), and it stopped playing completely before the original release date. While we have conflicting info, the more believable reason is Anno didn't like the dub, and they're working with Studio Khara to redo the dub. Another thing that came out recently (I think I saw it on Evageeks) is apparently FUNi is just simply holding it up for some reason, and the dub problem was a lie. In any case, the delay on this is absolutely absurd. I pre-ordered this thing almost two years ago (November 2013) and there's still no release date.

The version that got released here on dvd didn't have an English dub in the first place. Just the original language with optional French or Dutch subs. Most of the anime released here doesn't have a second language track. But yet they still pulled it from the stores.

Hey, everyone. So, I bought the Blu-ray set, and it's great. It's a very nice transfer; every spec film grain is intact, and no unnecessary changes have been. There are a lot of imperfections in the image, but that's only because of the source. Line detail is nice as well.

However, it appears that the original source or masters for episode 16 have been lost as it looks pretty horrid... well, not horrid, but it's basically a bad SD transfer. I'm on episode 24 now, and other than 16, they're all from a good HD transfer.

As expected, there are no English subs, only Japanese subs.

16 is noticeably inferior in terms of PQ, but it's still emminently watchable. Tbh, when I hit 16 I just mentally used it as a benchmark for how damned good the rest of the series looks

Good to hear the pq is good. Can you guys see any banding at all, or any other anomalies like compression blocking? They'd be most visible under darker lighting conditions such as a nightsky, a closeup of a face, or a fast moving action sequence.

I don't speak Japanese, nor can I understand it (some but very little), having said that, I have Evangelion darn near memorized. From start to finish like a dork including the movies. Am tempted to just go ahead and import it from Amz Japan.

I haven't noticed anything like that. It just looks gorgeous. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, 5 episodes in (although I did scan through 16 to see how different it was), but so far it just looks great.

There wasn't that much stuff that needs subtitling, that's if you are referring to making-off featurettes. There is only about 20 minutes of stuff like it that would need new subtitles. I guess there is the Live-Action End of Evangelion scenes which would be cool, but I don't remember if the were available in the U.S. DVD Release?
