A commentary from a "historian" entices no one. Do they really think anyone listens to those?

You want burned discs instead of pressed releases with remasters just because you don’t listen to commentaries?

I often find a commentary by a well-informed “historian” more interesting than one by an actor or director working off-the-cuff from 30-40 year-old memories. And yes, I listen to them. Not every one, but I do find a good commentary track enticing.

Whether a movie is released on a BD-R or a pressed disc, (and not a bootleg) it doesn't matter, when it's the only option you have, to get the movie that you want on Blu-ray. If James Cameron decide to release The Abyss or True Lies on a BD-R, you're not going to buy it? Sure you will, so why not buy other BD-R Blu-ray releases, as long as they're authentic.

Did some digging, and The Odd Couple is getting a BD-R reissue (and a DVD-R as well).

I don't prefer nor WANT burned discs. I just know that burned discs are the only option.

And I listen to and love commentaries. But by a historian?

Let me get this straight: you'd rather listen to some rando who has compiled info from a variety of sources but is otherwise not remotely attached to the movie than listen to someone who was actually involved in the making of the film?

Well, no actually, I won’t buy it. As I stated earlier in this thread, there are too many pressed blu rays completing for my not unlimited blu ray dollars. I’d be sad if Roman Holiday or The Shootist (to name just two) were released on BD-R, but I’d get over it. I’ve long ago accepted that I’ll never own every blu Ray that I might want.

In the end it comes down to the consumer’s choice, and that’s my choice.

Maybe consumers will raise a stink and Paramount will quickly switch to the pressed MOD route like Sony did after everyone complained about their Choice Collection BD-R line.

Because buying a BD is an investment based on the idea that you're going to have a library of titles of the highest quality that you can watch anytime. I can't speak specifically about BD-R's. but I have made a thousand CD-R's on a professional stand-alone device and I have had many fail. So unless it was a title that I couldn't live without, I personally wouldn't buy a BD-R - I'd probably just stream it instead, assuming it's available. But different strokes for different folks.

I don’t own any BD-Rs, but I have quite a few DVD-Rs from Warner Archive, Nickelodeon, and Universal Vault Series, in addition to several homemade discs, from around 2009-2014. All still play. The only discs that I own that failed on their own were some late-2000s era Warner DVDs (pressed discs) and one Blu-ray (Lionsgate’s T2 Skynet edition from 2009).

I didn't even realize this was finally getting a solo release! Is it pressed or a BD-R like many of these other recent reissues seem to be?

Paramount is thinking they need to save money and satisfy demand.

It worked for Sony.

I wouldn't buy a BD-R. Why pay for a product I could (ahem) make myself?

Except it didn't really. Sony abandoned their dogsh*t BD-R 'Choice Collection' when it became apparent that the people still buying physical media hate BD-Rs and weren't buying. So they've gone back to pressing their discs again.
