No, they will stream from their phones and ipods as well.

That is one thing that puzzles me about millennials. I know people who will watch shows on their mobile devices at home! Why on earth would you want to watch on a 5 to 9 inch screen when you most likely have a 40+ inch screen at home?

Aside from putting a movie on my tablet when I do the occaisional all nighter at work, I just have no desire to watch a show or movie on a small screen when I have a 60 inch TV at home.

That worries me about the future if going down the digital route with Arrow takes off could they cut cost with the work they put in with the extras, book, and package of their titles and just go with the digital route all the way.

I was having this discussion with a friend and he thinks it's because people are living with their parents much longer these days because they can't afford a mortgage. They don't want to watch the same stuff as their parents.
If those folks live alone, then yes that is bloody stupid IMO.

If they can't afford a mortgage they can move in an appartement, I didn't bought a house when I left my parents house when I was 17. It took me a while to get a "real" job (career) that pay enough to do so. The longer you wait the higher you will pay, staying forever at your mom's won't make it easier unless you're waiting to inherit the house. I think if your over 25 and still live with your parents you have a problem. (your parents must be sick of having you around too)

I'd like to choose which titles to upgrade, like Gladiator, Man of Steel, Avatar, Children of Men, etc and would leave titles like Fast & Furious, The Hangover, Hercules in 1080p. Also once ive paid a few dollars, I would have them in 'UHD' 'forever'
That's the thing. I said upgrade the bitrate. Not the resolution. They wouldn't be automatically giving you UHD with the monthly fee. It would still be HD, but the bitrate would be maxed out, assuming you have a strong home internet connection. Right now, Digital HD has a lower bitrate than Blu-ray. My idea was to give people the BD bitrate for an added monthly fee.

If you want UHD, ideally there would be an upgrade option, but most likely you'd have to just repurchase those select titles you want in UHD.

I'm not a businessman, so I don't know if this is a good idea, but it makes sense to me. They'd have to throw in an extra perk or two with that monthly fee to entice more people, though. I wonder how many people actually pay for the premium versions of Netflix streaming (with UHD and 4 simultaneous streams) and Hulu (commercial-free), besides me.

I feel if you haven't seen Vudu HDX, you really haven't experienced Digital HD at it finest.
I've seen plenty of Vudu HDX, and if that's "Digital HD at it finest", it not fine enough!

Rent? And how will that allow young people to save? Most folks want the security of a bought house.

I rented from 17 to 25 and saved over 15k, if you dropped school at 15 and work at minimum wage you can't save but if you thought about your future sand learned a trade or went to school long enough you should be able to pay for your rent and save some.

Harder times now though. And most youngsters seem to live on credit IMO.

Are you suggesting younge people don't want the security of a bought home when they are older? Or that a lot of young people are in debt?

Try using it. I had a shrinkwrapped HD-A30 as backup. When my venerable XA2 died, I unpacked the player and found that it couldn't read half of the discs that had worked fine on the XA2 (not to mention that it was really slow by today's standards). I have since ripped all the HD-DVDs to MKV files and they now reside on my NAS (which is regularly backed up). Digital files are much safer if you know what you are doing. Optical media are really dinosaurs IMO.

Isn't it Facebook that uses Blu-Ray as storage ?

If they do, they certainly use redundant copies and store them in a climate-controlled environment. Do you?

It was probably a firmware issue more than anything.

Besides, putting aside the legalities of the situation, even buying a disc and ripping it to have a copy free of the lock down and drm nonsense that the various digital services put on the content is better than paying directly for digital copies.
