Not true. The first film had likable characters. The second had characters that weren't annoying and were just average and there's the Tommy Jarvis character, which kind of expanded for three straight entries.

I have to disagree too. I watched the first one today and while the characters are regular annoying teens, they're not unlikable. I even think in a way, the characters in the first Friday the 13th are more likeable than the characters in the first Halloween (aside from Laurie Strode).

That clip epitomizes the entire series for me...awful, obnoxious, detestable, blaring characters getting killed, over and over. When I watched that scene, I honestly came within an inch of taking my shoe off and throwing it at the TV.

I have no idea what people see in these movies, aside from those who grew up on them and found them scary before they were old enough to realize how shitty they are. I went through the entire Friday The 13th series about five or six years back on Netflix just to say I saw them, and detested the whole lot (even the "classic" original is a turkey).

Are you trying to tell me the guy who doesn't wipe or wash his hands after sitting on the toilet in 3 isn't likeable?!

All I remember is a scene in one of the middle ones where a group of teens drive by a heavyset woman at the side of the road and yell and jeer at her as they pass...and then Jason comes up and kills her. What the hell did SHE do to "deserve it"?!

That's the same sour, ugly, unappealing tone all of the films have. The characters are just "meat", there to take their clothes off and get butchered. At least in the first Halloween, you cared for Laurie Strode, who was a meek, sensitive girl who took care of a pair of kids like they were her own.

That was The Final Chapter, and that scene pretty much sums up the entire movie. I do think other films in the series have characters you like, which adds to the suspense. If you like them, you don't want them to die. Of course, most of them do anyway.

I completely understand why many people do not like the Friday the 13th films, and I can't even put my finger on why I watch all of them at least once a year. Yes, even the films in the series I truly dislike. Strange, but there you have it.

One of the pleasures of Halloween is watching Laurie Strode fight back and persevere with a strength that many in the audience, nor indeed she herself, knew she had. I love Carpenter's early films and from Assault on Precinct 13 to Halloween to The Fog to Escape from New York they ALL feature strong, smart heroines when objectification of women in B-movies was typically the norm; it really is one of the many strengths of his early work.

20+21. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 + 4
Friday the 13th is a popcorn monster movie series and Parts 3 + 4 are bad movies I unapologetically love. The series was released as I was growing up and already being a big monster movie fan, I jumped right on the new wave of 80's monsters. Part 3 is a pure slasher and other than the original has the best ending of the series. I'm pretty sure Part 4 was my introduction to the series and being about Corey Feldman's age in part 4, I thought it was cool that a kid could outsmart the villain. I'm sure I rented the first 9 movies on video tape at least once and recorded them any time I was lucky enough to catch them on tv. It's cool to be able to revisit these on Blu-ray and I'm sure I rate this series a little higher than the average viewer but if you want no nonsense slasher action, give Jason a chance.

You're overthinking Friday the 13th. They're just body count movies and no more really. The Horror equivalent of 'junk food'. Many people love them for that.

Also, Ethel and Junior in Part 5 are comic relief. She calls her Son a "big dildo" at one point. They're hilarious in my opinion.

28 Sep - Terrifier 1/2

I've just given Terrifier a 2nd watch and I feel I owe Damien Leone an apology. I didn't really address the passion that was put in this project, and it needs to be said. I'll go ahead and say that the mood is a powerful thing, and maybe mine was a bit off kilter the first watch, because Terrifier resonated so much more with me the 2nd time around. Art is a bonafide modern horror icon, and that's exciting. I still don't think it's perfect, but MUCH better than the first critique I gave.

So, because she was meek and sensitive, you automatically cared for her?
I'm guessing you didn't care for Annie & company.

In reality, she would've gotten those kids and hightailed it to safety and call the cops. You are not trying to win a championship fight. The goal is to disable them long enough to make an quick escape. But, then again, it's all part of the show.
Laurie did what anyone else would've done when backed into a corner, you hit them with whatever you got in order to get away.

The House with a Clock in It's Walls w/ Michael Jackson's Thriller in IMAX 3D

I ended up watching this for a second time. I would welcome a sequel with the same characters, even though I think it's just an average film. Based on the trailer I thought there would have been more fun scenes with the boy playing with magic. There wasn't enough of that. I also didn't really care for the "villian"; it was too silly.

I won't be watching any Friday the 13th this Halloween season since I've watched 1-8 twice this year: on the weekends of April 13, 2018 and July 13, 2018. I might watch the remake since it's been a couple years since I've seen it.
