You could/can preorder it from Gruv for cheaper (with the coupon). I believe it was under $20 when I used the 20% coupon on slickdeals.

Pretty much every Universal catalogue UHD hits $10 inside of a few months.

To be fair, they shouldnt promote future releases if they don’t have them secured and in the pipeline.

I'm not disappointed because the English DTS-MA 5.1 mix is the original cinema audio one. I don't need to choose Atmos or DTS:X when the OG audio is included. Obviously going for the regular case release instead of wishy washy Steelbook rubbish.

I've never preordered from GRUV before. Do they include the slip on a new release?

BUT the saving grace is that Tarantino's DIs don't look like DIs, I know that was stated in the VFX article above but it's true, he doesn't like using power windows to grade a film and prefers a typically old-school additive/subtractive approach to the colour timing. So even though IB will shirley be an upscale I think it'll upscale real purty like.
Another thing to consider is that since INGLORIOUS BASTERDS was shot in anamorphic 35mm AND printed back to film for 35mm anamorphic release prints, I imagine the 2K DI would have used to full 4-perf 2K height for the scanning and DI work- i.e. 1536 pixels vs. 858 pixels if this was a matted Super-35 show. That additional "height" resolution should be fully resolved in the 4K UHD, whereas of course it gets dropped down to about 800 pixels on a letterboxed Blu-ray.

does anyone foresee a steelbook release for this? I'm inclined to jump on the Gruv deal, but would then be salty if a steel release is announced soon. Gruv may not make it as easy to cancel a preorder like BB or Amazon either..

If the source was actually finished in 2K anamorphic (well, 1828x1536 as scanned) and not flat then an uprez to 4K should contain a good chunk of extra detail, yep. Double the horizontal so we get 3656x1536 then a fractional uprez to UHD from there. Not "real 4K" but still moar pixels than flat 2K.

(It wouldn't surprise me if other movies that showed a solid detail increase in their upscaled UHD counterparts were finished in this way, i.e. more often than not it's been movies shot anamorphic that give the best upscale.)

And technically, even some shot-in-1080P movies can get a vertical resolution bump on UHD- for example, REVENGE OF THE SITH. While ATTACK OF THE CLONES was indeed "cropped" top-and-bottom to achieve a 'Scope aspect ratio, by the time they shot RotS, the cameras were upgraded and advanced so the full 1080 X 1920 pixels were used to capture the 'Scope image without cropping. Of course, this is reduced to 800 vertical pixels on Blu-ray, but yet again, the full 1080P height can be resolved within an uprezzed letterboxed UHD frame.

Never heard of that on Sith. I recall the Thomson Viper had such a feature because of its oversampled 1920x4320 sensor, but not the Sony F950. And to my eyes fine detail is a wash between the BD and UHD of Sith.

I would say Day 1, but not at $30. If it released at that price, I can guarantee you it will be down to $20 in 1-2 months. Then Black Friday around the corner....I can wait.

$25 release price...maaaybe. Im cheap. leave me alone.

It’s been up for pre-order for $16 directly from Universal with the GRUVLOYAL coupon. Free shipping with no minimum at the moment too.

Will the 4K include the features that were on the Best Buy exclusive bonus disc DVD included with the Blu-ray? It is a 1-hour+ interview with the director & someone from The New York Times.

I’m not seeing it listed in the special features here, but maybe I’m just missing something.
