It has little to do with why 'the original film worked', which was the quote I responded to. The original poster was all Arnold. All the film stills on display at the theaters, were Arnold and his team (and big explosions). Arnold is what sold the film and ensured its massive succes.

The Predator itself as a marketable brand/creature came later.
I have heard it said that Schwarzenegger wasn’t really a household name until after Predator happened, though. Even The Terminator, while a solid hit, didn’t supposedly propel him to instant stardom.

I can’t say first-hand though, although it appears neither can you.

I hope it's at least rated PG-13 so I can take my 3-yar-old nephew. He loves Disney movies.

Pretty excited for this.
Director did well with Cloverfield Lane and Amber Midthunder was fab in Legion, excited to see her as a lead.
Wasn't there like a ten year gap between Rodriguez' Predators and Shane's The Predator? Now we're getting another one just a few years out from the last, more predator on screen isn't a bad thing in my eyes.
Haven't seen The Predator yet because it was torn apart but I enjoy Shane Blacks work so I'd probably enjoy it, will Nice Guys 2 ever happen though??? Give me that shit please!!??

I have no doubt this movie will be torn apart for being "woke" and I'll cringe out my spine like a trophy piece when it happens...
Ugh

Anyway, optimistic for this one...

Eight years between those two Predator films. I’m going off the top of my head here but wasn’t Nice Guys a commercial failure?

Conan the Barbarian, Terminator, and Commando. He was a household name. It's not just the hit movies. Arnold was always very aggressive in promoting his movies. He would be on every morning show and every late show pushing his movies and himself

The Nice Guys wasn't a success from my memory, I think you're correct. Shame really, I think it was one of the best movies of that year and that pairing deserves a few more outings. I know there was a thing going around about a tv spin off? Was that a thing??

I guess witty, buddy movies aren't allowed in the cinema diet anymore :/

Quote:
As late as last week, the Local 212 chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees had been indicating filming for “Skulls” was scheduled to be completed on the 28th of this month. But now, it seems the target date for completion of principal photography has shifted yet again, this time scheduled to be finished on September 9th.

Quote:
In related “Skulls” production news, thanks to the Instagram Story of stunt performer Jung Jin Park, we got a great look at these wonderful new shirts created exclusively for the members of the “Skulls Stunt Team” that were lucky enough to participate in the making of this film.
Interestingly enough, the skull on the shirt seems to depict the cranium of a bear, an animal native to the area of filming. Is this a clue that a bear might be featured in the new Predator film “Skulls”?

A bear in the film remains to be seen, but it could be what Producer John Fox was hinting at last month when he said this about the upcoming film “Skulls”:

“It actually has more akin to ‘The Revenant’ than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it.”

So only a week left of filming until the likely reshoots. Also I'm sure there's bears a plenty since it deals with indigenous people in the woods.

Really would like to see the story moved forward instead of continuously reintroducing us to them with new casts... I'm guessing if we're dating back to indigenousness life it will be another rehash.

I wouldn't have thought Disney would release a version like that. But colour me wrong.

Well if this new movie is rated R, it has a chance. It's hard to be much worse then The Predator LOL. We're already at rock bottom, so the franchise can either die or get better. How it's still getting funding at this point boggles me, guess mostly due to it being a pop-culture icon yet.

A tad concerning it's going straight to streaming, but the pandemic has really crippled theaters at this point so there probably is a lot of sensibility in just skipping them here.

I guess it's good it's going in a different direction, I don't think the "machoness" of the original can really be recreated. Putting a new spin on the Predator isn't a bad idea - I just feel like a future setting where say space-faring Humans are hunting Predators might be more novel, maybe a bit too bold I suppose heh.
