The pre credit sequence for this week's Doomwatch was a shocker. Superb episode, well written, brilliantly acted.
The Cheaters and Richard the Luonheart: nice to see 2025 on a "remastered by" credit. I hope that means we will see dvd (or even better blu ray) releases to follow. The quality of remasters on these were both excellent - clearly they are using the original film stock or something very close to it. The audio was a little crackly on The Cheaters (it was fine on RtL). The broadcast quality looked to be worthy of a blu ray release. Of the episodes themselves, I enjoyed Richard the Lionheart more, it reminded me of the swashbuckling style of the Francis Drake series. The only issue was there was too much plot for 30 minutes, it could have easily been longer. The Cheaters was more much more formulaic both in story and script, but the sting at the end was a nice idea. John Ireland needs better material in future episodes though. Z Cars has reached a new year and new series, and newly worked music by Steeleye Span no less. A strong first episode filmed at Brighton Racecourse (a long way from Newtown!) In bright summer sunshine. I assume next week will continue the story. Richard Diamond - its somewhat formulaic and obviously dated but David Janssen shines as the title character. Plus "Sam" makes me chuckle every time I hear her voice. I'll keep watching and enjoying "Mr. D." |

The hope is that a boutique label like Via Vision will continue where Network left off and release further episodes of some other TV series from the Danziger archives - The Vise, Mark Saber and Saber of London. Maybe the new version of the Z-Cars theme tune will grow on me, but after getting used to and really liking the previous version, to me it didn't seem to fit with what was going on in the episode. Very good story and they kept it interesting with the majority of the episode taking place at the racecourse (the next surviving Series 11 episode being shown will conclude the story started in "Guns" (called "Manslaughter"). |

There was one addition to a recent post that I forgot to include. A clip was shown on The Footage Detectives a few months ago from a series called Glencannon. I'm assuming it's the same episode which is getting an airing on Talking Pictures on Sunday 13th April at 9.25 am - 9.50 am ("The Loving Cup" (the cast includes Thomas Mitchell and Patrick Allen).
A clip was shown on The Footage Detectives a few weeks ago of a documentary short about the new (at the time) Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham in the mid-sixties. The documentary short is getting an airing on Sunday 27th April at 6 am - 6.30 am. Getting an airing three weeks today (Wednesday 16th April at 8.30 am - 9.10 am) is Talking Pictures Meets Ray Dorset (Mike Read interviewing the founder of Mungo Jerry at a past TPTV Festival at Christchurch). One final thing, in a recent Talking Pictures email newsletter they said that some new Look at Life shorts are going to be premiering on the channel (check listings for when they will be airing). |

Missed this last week when looking through the two new weeks' worth of listings added to the TV Schedule section on Talking Pictures' website last week. Was reminded by yesterday's weekly Sunday email newsletter. Starting on Saturday 26th April is Gerry & Sylvia Anderson series Supercar (airing at 10 am - 10.30 am, the series begins with the episode "Rescue").
***** Not sure if these have aired on the channel before, but some episodes of fifties anthology series Four Star Playhouse are airing on the channel soon: - "The Bomb", airing on Thursday 24th April at 11 am - 11.30 am - "Trail's End", airing on Friday 25th April at 5.30 am - 6 am - "Tusitala", airing on Friday 25th April at 5.40 pm - 6.10 pm. ***** Premiering on Talking Pictures this coming Friday morning (4th April) at 5.30 am - 6 am is an episode of mid-fifties anthology series The Star and the Story ("Ferry to Fox Island"). Last edited by OceanBlue; 04-14-2025 at 09:22 PM. Reason: Added additional episode of anthology series Four Star Playhouse. |

Well that was an interesting onscreen message after the season 1 finale of The Texan was shown on Talking Pictures earlier today. It was one of those onscreen messages with the male voiceover that comes up when the channel has finished showing all of the episodes of a series. The difference here? "The Man Hater" was not the last episode of The Texan, unless Talking Pictures could only only license the first thirty-seven episodes (the whole of the first season). There is probably a good, logical explanation.
Wondering when we will be seeing the next batch of episodes of Fireball, Thunderbirds and the second season of The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. And what happened to the Saddle Up! introductions by James Stephens, in addition to Melvyn Hayes' introductions to films from the thirties? |

Tuesday 27th May at 7.35 am - 7.45 am Wednesday 28th May at 1.45 pm - 1.55 pm and Sunday 1st June at 8.20 am - 8.30 am. Also, the TV Schedule section on the website has now been updated, covering up the same period as the TV Highlights section (Monday 9th to Sunday 15th June). There is an episode of anthology series Star Performance airing on the channel on Monday 9th June that I haven't seen before, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't aired on Talking Pictures TV before. Called "Moorings", it's airing at 7.10 am - 7.40 am, with the cast including Charles Boyer, Dorothy Malone and Will Wright. |
