Others have opened theirs and when their home remedy didn't work, SCE still accepted and repaired the PS3. So long as everything is put together like before, they'll repair/refurb it.

So don't send in a PS3 shell and expect them to "repair" it.

What have you heard about others that have the problem recurring? Has anyone been able to fix it and it didn't come back? I'm tempted to manually fix it, but with the problem not actually being fixed, I don't know if it's worth it.
Some have fixed it once and it is still running. Others have fixed it a few times. My first attempt ran almost 1.5 months. I guess the temperature here is too hot and the second reflowing didn't do the job. As other's have pointed out before, YLOD could be many things but most of the time it seems to be the Cell/RSX not connecting to the board.

If you don't want to be messing with it, then don't. Those who attempt usually accept the fact that if it doesn't work, they'll have to send it to SCE anyway.

Default YLOD Fixer - Lower Prices

The guy that fixes your PS3's YLOD has lowered his price to $74.99 from $79.99.

http://cgi.ebay.com/PLAYSTATION-3-RE...3A1%7C294%3A50

He is a reliable repairman as a member from here has sent in his PS3 and received it back repaired.

Anyone have issues with freezing? Yesterday I noticed a severe load time exiting psn store. The wavy screen behind came to a crawl and took a couple minutes to come out of. Not sure if its a heating issue or maybe a corrupt hdd?

It could of been a Network Connectivity issue to the PSN Network.

Are you experiencing this today?

Didnt think a new thread was required so I thought I would ask it here. Is there a way to fully lockdown your PS3? Reason is because whenever I leave my house my sister and her boyfriend(there currently living with me) like to try and mess around on my PS3. Now usually I dont care..but there terrible.. he deletes friends off my account and they shut down the system without powering it down. They just flick the switch. Now I have told them to stop using it but they keep doing so..so when im gone I was wondering if there is a way to lock it up? I have a password for the internet part..but is there a way to fully lock it down so they wouldnt use it cause they wont know the password?

You can password your profile but they will still be able to get on as a guest. My recommendation is to take the power cord with you

yeah, theres no real prevention of people powering on the PS3 and then turning it off from the back other than what you suggested.

Or you could just murder them.

Seriously, if you want to prevent them from signing in as you, delete your password from your login to the PSN.

i think this may be a known issue by sony and they should be fixing this for us for free instead of use wasting our time.

No way to back up my stuff off the 320GB HDD, huH?

If I go the $One-Fiddy route, and try to pop that in the replacement, it's going to want to format huh?

any HDD that you install on the PS3 that wasnt already formatted by that particular machine will make the PS3 format it.

They will let you keep the HD, but from what I've heard you can't put your old HD in a new machine.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own... got a few questions:

-What exactly is 'reflowing', how does heating the board FIX the YLOD?

-While watching some of the fix videos, they say to take off the rubber things on each side of the board. I only have the rubber things on one side of my board, 7 of them. Take these off?

And as a funny, while taking apart my PS3 I found a ton of spider silk, some even covering my screws. When I went to take my HD out, there was a spider sitting on the top of it, wrapped in silk and dead.

If its past warranty, you could attempt to fix it yourself.

You can look at my fixer thread if you need instructions.

If you attempt to fix yourself and remove warranty sticker, does that affect your ability to send it to Sony for $150? Or by warranty, do they mean the 1 year warranty.
