My local theater was just added to the list on Fandango. Dolby Cinema.

EDIT: Nope, edited now to say "Standard". Boooo.

Im a little bit disappointed that the disc edition is released 3 months after the streaming versions.
Would be nice to enjoy this during the upcoming holidays……

Listed as Dolby Cinema at my AMC, but not yet available to purchase.

What’s the point of a one-night only exhibition of a new 4K in standard? Hopefully your AMC at least has the new laser lamps in their standard booths, but are those projectors even 4K?

I actually am very surprised they aren't pushing a pre-Christmas release for the discs.

I wonder if Disney is trying to sell more streaming copies first?

These days it could be as simple as it taking that long for disc replication.

The Dolby Cinema and IMAX ones are. I don't know about the others.

Those are six pretty huge releases (keep in mind Avatar and The Way of Water will get the new discs), so three in December and three in March looks like a pretty reasonable plan to me.

Update 2: Now the AMC web site (not Fandango) is listing the movie in the Dolby Cinema theater.

Can someone fill me in on the talk from earlier about missing frames needing to be interpolated with AI?

"The Abyss Special Edition" was finished on film and at points where existing theatrical takes were extended a frame would be missing because it had been destroyed in the negative cutting process. This is normal procedure and you can see jump cuts at these spots. I was wondering if modern technology could be used to recreate the missing frame.

So will The Devils become the new, “ ___ gets a Blu-Ray but The Abyss doesn’t?”

Interesting. Wouldn't that create sync issues with the sound though? You'd have to fill in that 1-frame gap in the audio as well.

Conforming the audio shouldn't be a problem.

The scene towards the end with One Night and Hippie talking has a frame cut and the audio skips also. I really hope they can fix these spots.

As far as I’m aware they finished the Abuse SE to an IP (or perhaps a B roll) as the picture negative was already confirmed to the theatrical, to undo all that could cause unnecessary damage to the OG neg. But yes, in either case you end up with a dropped frame where new material is physically appended to an existing cut.

You say “modern technology” to recreate the frames but it doesn’t need anything major or any AI shite, it’s an extremely simple process for a computer as it just averages out the before frame and the after frame - to the extent that that this was done years ago for the 2003 HD remaster of Terminator 2 and also for the 2010 2K remaster of Aliens. I fully expect that a 2023 remaster of any of these shows would have the missing frames digitally reconstructed.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot about all that intrigue. And, I think the movie is fascinating that is till
[Show spoiler]I see a face on the end of a tube of water
and that's where I loose interest in the rest of the movie. I don't know...there just seems to be something missing with this movie. Yea I know, it's not a horror movie but it does have some suspenseful moments.

In a way I do want to get this new release but only because of how long and how many people have been waiting for and are excited about this title (FOMO) to finally get it's release on UHD Blu-ray. With the work the director is putting into it, I'm guessing this is going to be a spectacular release...probably jaw dropping as far as what could be expected from something originally shot on film.

So on just that point alone, it might be worth having in my collection.

[Show spoiler]But wouldn't it be better if that water thing with the face at the end of it could be more like Jason, Freddy, Michael or even Cocaine Bear?
