Thanks for your feedback. I understand that my review might come across as a bit harsh, but let me explain just a bit.

I'm an absolutely huge James Bond fan. The hallway leading to my home theater is lined with classic Bond posters from the Connery era. Books you might find in my living room include, "Bond Girls," The James Bond Poster Collection," "The Man Who Saved Britain," and all of the original vintage Bond novels. Hell, I even wear an Omega Seamaster watch and Persol sunglasses. I was raised on Bond and each time a new Bond movie hits theaters, it is an event for me. When D.A.D. came out, I was there, excited as usual, on opening day. I've seen every Bond flick since the mid-seventies in the theater and I was thrilled. I also thought that Brosnan was the best Bond since Connery and had a chance of overtaking him as THE Bond. Suffice it to say, I was extremely disappointed with the movie and I still maintain that that film, in particular, was rushed into production and was made on autopilot. It takes a lot for a die-hard Bond fan to hate one of the movies... and I despise DAD. I dislike it the most for the way it ended Brosnan's career as Bond. He deserved better. Mostly, though, I can't stand Bond movies when they become parodies of themselves. DAD most certainly was.

So, my review is that of a severely disappointed fan who knows how much better a Bond film can be. We've seen that now with Casino Royale and I hope to see the excellence repeated with Quantum of Solace.

So, I had no intention to offend, but I have to be honest about my feelings for a movie.

Cheers!

And I completely agree with you review. DAD was horrid... Like you said... Invisible cars?! Was Yoda hiding in the trunk as well? Maybe they could para sail down a mountain together...

Ben, you are perfectly entitled to your feelings, and I appreciate the response. I also aprpecaite that reviews are subjective, and I am ok with that.

I understand the feeling actually, DaD started a huge storm of hate on the Imdb forums back in the days of its release

For reference, I am also a huge Bond fan, the very first two VHS my dad brought home when I was 8 or 9 were Star Wars and .. Dr No

Since then, I have seen every single one of them, and have appreciated each Bond (well, Dalton a bit less I have to admit) for what they brought to the Franchise. I am with you on Brosnan, he is in fact my favorite Bond still, even though the one I really despise is The World Is Not Enough (I cannot say enough how retarded it was to put Denise Richards as a Nuclear scientist, but I digress).
I guess DaD was all I expected from it, as I saw several interviews where they stated the goal of the movie being a patchwork of Bond moments (that you find clicheed). I guess I do not truly consider DaD as a "pure" Bond, more of a nostalgia 2h flick.

But quite Frankly, if DaD deserves a 1, then ... Diamonds are Forever, The Man with the Golden Gun and A View To a Kill deserve ... what ? 0.5 ?

/salute

How did you pull that off?

And thanks for the pictures, I definitely want the steelbooks now. I am betting my Best Buy will have been wiped out by tomorrow. If they are gone, it's hunting on ebay for me. Although, I doubt that I can pull off a deal like that...almost 50% off.

I respect your honesty... especially since it was VERY similar to my opinion of the film as well.

It was TRULY a let-down to see Bond fall so far after the excitement of seeing the promise of Brosnan in Goldeneye.

Wow, I gotta give that a shot! The coupons, not the flirting (with my luck it will be all guys working and that would be awkward)

After reading the review of " DIE ANOTHER DAY " , I was very surprised at how much emphasis was put on the movie itself as opposed to the reviewer's analysis of the PQ, AQ and the supplements.

O.K., so you don't like the movie, fine. We all have our favourites and dislikes. " DIE ANOTHER DAY " is by no means the best Bond but it sure as hell isn't the worst by a long shot. Let's face it, after the Connery era, all of the Bond movies were all pretty far-fetched. Anything goes and usually did. That's what most of us came to expect and DIE ANOTHER DAY is no different.

Now, starting with Casino Royale, the trend has reversed and were back to a more serious take on the approach to Bond films.

Personally, I don't put any weight into the reviewer's opinion of the movie. I've already decided for myself as to whether I want that title or I don't.

Just the facts is all we really need.

Cheers

I think there is something wrong with my “From Russia With Love “ Blu-Ray disk. When I 1st put it in my S500 the disk proceeded to the menu but when I tried to use my remote, the disk would not respond. I tried restarting it several times with the same result. I removed it & tried another Blu-Ray disk – “Total Recall”. The disk responded to the remote just fine. Thinking it might be a firmware problem, I updated to S500 version 4.00 from 3.75. I put “From Russia With Love “ back in & tried again. The response or lack thereof is even WORSE!!! It does not even get to the menu! All I get is a black TV screen. “Thunderball” is acting the same way! “Live and Let Die” gets to the menu, but when I try to start the movie all I get is a black TV screen & nothing else happens! The other 3 disks in the Six pack are responding normally. What the Hell is going on with these 3 disks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone else encountered this situation??? HELP!?! I’m suppose I’m going to have to return these disks to Amazon. I’m guessing Amazon will want both sets & all six disks. And after waiting SO LONG!!! Dam!

Excuse me, what? TMWTGG is my favorite of the Moore films, flying car be damned! I demand you edit your post to put Moonraker in its place!

Oh well, I guess that just goes to prove how even amongst Bond fans, we can't agree on the good and bad ones I am one of the ones that liked DAD too.

What coupons were they? I've looked all over the place and can't find any that apply. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I like when a reviewer reviews the movie itself, as well as the presentation on Blu-ray. That's a truly comprehensive review and I find it useful when considering blind buys. The way I see it, you can always skip that part of the review and read only the stuff you care about (which is what I do with most movies for which I already have a well-developed opinion).

You have to go to a Bestbuy with a Magnolia Home Theater Dept.

and ask the associate there for this coupon:

Thanks! Is there a limit to how many you can get? I don't even know if my Best Buy has a Magnolia Home Theater Department, I'll have to look into it.

Then skip the review of the movie and read the PQ/AQ review... though those are opinions as well, and are just as subjective.

I've disagreed with many a movie review (I agree with this one however), and I only read them (sometimes) for entertainment purposes.

I am a lifelong Bond fan as well. I have a memoribilia collection that I have been working on for almost 30 years (it was featured on TV back in 2002). I have to ALMOST agree with the reviewer on DAD. It did start off promising (with the exception of some diolague very poorly delivered by Brosnan) and then once Halle Barry showed up and he went to the clinic in Cuba, the movie went out the window and scraped the floor.

Unlike the reviewer, I never felt Brosnan captured Bond very well and when I attended the world premiere of GoldenEye (I was 10 ft away from Brosnan) all I could think of was how much better the movie would have been it it had a better score and if Dalton was still Bond.

THe big question I have for anybody who has the UE DVDs and has compared the Blu Ray to them - is it really worth the upgrade?

Jaguar007... that Goldeneye score is atrocious! We definitely agree on that!

Are we all in agreement on my Dr. No review at least?
