Thanks for any info.

Actually, don't worry about replying to my original question. I've ordered the UK Blu-ray edition released by Momentum, which definitely has the correct subtitles.

I've been reading about Magnolia's intransigent response to the wholly justifiable criticism of the appalling subtitles on their release. See this link:

http://iconsoffright.com/news/2009/0...les_in_to.html

Although they have promised a re-release, they have refused to acknowledge that there is anything actually wrong with the subtitles and have point-blank refused to instigate an exchange programme for those who are saddled with their existing release. Their attitude seems to be one of utter contempt for their customers.

So I don't want my money going to such a company. The Momentum release is fine - I've just rented the DVD version, and it does have the proper theatrical subtitles.

Just fyi, that release doesn't have a lossless DTS-HD soundtrack.

Proper subtitles or lossless audio?

I'll take proper subtitles with a lossy track. At least the presentation will be a lot better then dumbed=down subittles.

Its suppose to be fix, at the back of the re-release with all the disc details it should say"theatrical subtitles".

The post is around here somewhere.

Presumably, if Magnolia is going to make the correction, it will not be until they order up another run of discs. There's really no telling when that will be, or even if they'll actually fix anything.

The UK version is fine for me. And even though it has a lossy soundtrack, the film's sound overall is more subdued, anyway, so I can totally live with it.

Seriously, after reading the book, the whole movie feels dumbed down. So I'll take the improper subs with DTS-HD. There really isn't that much of a difference.

The commentary on the UK version with the author/screenwriter and director speaks to that issue (book vs. film) rather extensively. I found it interesting, anyway.

Yesterday we told you that the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Let The Right One In featured drastically altered subtitles from the theatrical release — horribly dumbed down, and missing much of the dark humor of the original critically acclaimed release. Fans of the film were outraged (which they should be), and Magnet Releasing has finally issued a statement through the DVD website Digital Bits:

“We’ve been made aware that there are several fans that don’t like the version of the subtitles on the DVD/BR. We had an alternate translation that we went with. Obviously a lot of fans thought we should have stuck with the original theatrical version. We are listening to the fans feedback, and going forward we will be manufacturing the discs with the subtitles from the theatrical version.”

For those that wish to purchase a version with the theatrical subtitles, you will be able to tell in the tech specs box at the back/bottom of the package because it will read “SUBTITLES: ENGLISH (Theatrical), SPANISH.” Magnet refuses to offer exchanges to anyone who has bought the altered version, which is really upsetting to me as a consumer.

If you ask me, the distributor should make every effort to take care of all the upset customers who purchased the dvd under the assumption that it would feature the same subtitles that were released in theaters. And from the sound of it, I doubt Magnet plans to recall/replace the previously pressed discs which are currently in stores which makes it almost impossible to purchase the movie through an online website like Amazon, because you don’t know what you’re going to get.

You can email Magnet at: dvd@magpictures.com
Suck they won't offer up an exchange.

It's a bummer that the region B releases doesn't have the lossless DTS-HD track. I bought the Swedish Blu-ray (I live in Norway and I understand Swedish), and it's a really great release on every level (including the commentary and all the other extras). But it only has Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 sound...

Wonder why a Swedish release of a Swedish movie doesn't include a sound that (according to reviews on this site) is amongst the best on a foreign movie released on Blu-ray...

Just so everyone knows, Magnolia has acknowledged that there was a mastering problem that caused the UK Blu-ray players to incorrectly just play the DTS core rather than the full DTS HD MA stream, and are correcting this. They have offered to swap faulty copies for one of the newly remastered copies if returned it to them. and so it continues.................

.................Quote:Thank you for your email regarding the problem with the audio on your Let The Right One In Blu-Ray disc.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your query.

We have been looking into this issue and have learnt that the problem was due to an error/bug in the version of the BD authoring system used to produce the first BD master. The DTS HD Master Audio track is wrongly recognized as DTS HD Core audio in BD players. We have since replaced the master with a corrected one and will be making new BD stock over the coming weeks.

We are sorry for any in-convenience caused and would like to exchange your disc for a new one once new stock arrives.

Please send us your faulty BD disc along with your full postal address and we will send you a new copy out."

Which BD release does this address, specifically? I have the Momentum UK release which has no lossless audio track--only DTS 5.1 (lossy) and Dolby Digital 5.1 (lossy).

The US release from Magnolia has lossless audio, but has the incorrect subtitle track. Magnolia does not see this as an error and will not do exchanges, but has said they will add the theatrical subtitle track to future pressings (you'll be able to tell if a copy has it by the back cover which will say "Subtitles: English (Theatrical)", as opposed to the current copies which just say "Subtitles: English"). Magnolia HAS already issued new DVD copies with the correct subtitles, but no one has spotted a Blu-ray version (and believe me, we have been looking). Magnolia has ignored all emails I've sent them, so I have no idea when this mythical Blu-ray repressing will come out.

The UK release from Momentum Pictures has the correct subtitles, but currently features lossy audio. The back cover advertises DTS-HD MA, but that track is not on the disc. Momentum has said this is due to an authoring bug, and will be repressing discs in the coming weeks. They have offered to do an exchange for any owner of the current disc (in the UK at least, I have emailed them asking if they will honor the exchange for US owners and am awaiting a reply).

I'm very confused by this post and your follow-up post.

You referred to Magnolia above but in your follow-up post, you quoted the address of Momentum in the UK.

So are you referring to Magnolia's US Blu-ray edition or to Momentum's UK Blu-ray edition? As another poster has mentioned, I thought the Momentum edition didn't have a DTS HD MA track anyway.

Edit: OK, the post by Neo Reloaded, which beat mine by two minutes, seems to have provided the clarification I wanted!

His post has a typo. The DTS-HD MA issue and exchange program is for the UK release from Momentum. You are correct that it doesn't have a DTS-HD MA track, but that is the mistake - it is supposed to. The exchange program is to rectify that.
