The Panic Room 4K disc is stellar. May watch Nosferatu or Cronos (BFI edition 4K) tonight.

Only if you let it.

It's entirely speculation, so it should spread like wildfire here.

It shouldn't be a big surprise when Sony backed away from Recordable Discs, they did say that Players were next. How much logger will Panasonic last, they are not making any new Players. With only 10% of the Video Market it should be very plain where this is going!

It's a big nothing- just like your comment.

Sony never said that their players were next; this is just more of your endlessly made-up BS.

Robert Zohn is an authorized Sony dealer and this is what he had to say about this latest "sky is falling" hysteria:

You will just have to keep waiting to celebrate the demise of physical media.

Good news, I don’t want cheaper and inferior players flooding the market for the next several years!

If Sony stopped making the X700 that would help the UHD BD format a lot. I owned 2 of them and both had significant problems. There's a reason why the thread about trying to get them to work right is such a big thread. 2 reasons. 1 they are cheap and accessible 2 they don't work.

Alchav,

How will you celebrate if your dream of a world without high quality media comes true ? Do you have plans for it ? Maybe buy some shiny new ethernet cables?

Are there other things people love that you can't stand and maybe you will take up one of those like no more bananas or something?

Can I recommend photography forums where you suggest SLR cameras are losing the war to phones ... that seems like a good one.

The problem with good build quality is devices last a long time. I have these UHD Blu-ray players: Oppo UDP-203 ● Sony UBP-X1000 ● Sony UBP-X800 ● Sony UBP-X800. Also have Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player. I have no intension of replacing any of these players because they still work fine. My Pioneer CLD-900 LD/CD player was 19 years old and was still going strong when it was donated.

I seriously doubt we will see any new external streaming devices anytime soon. My Nvidia Shield Pro is 6 years old and there is not a newer model. My Apple TV4K 2nd gen. is 5 years old and the newer model offers very little change. My Apple TV4K 3nd gen. is just a few months old, it was a add-on purchase, not a replacement.

Sadly the AVP devices available has shrunk. Onyko, Integra, Yamaha and others no longer make upscale AVP’s. Hope my Yamaha CX-A5100 keeps going because I can not find a new AVP with the features it has.

Projectors - a bright spot in home theater. There remains several makes of high-end video projectors.

Media Players - Many devices available, just have to know where to look. All past and present models have warts.

That’s the thing though, he thinks his sources ARE high quality, purely because he doesn’t expose himself to the best formats in the first place.

Pioneer remain my favourite ever brand. Everything I ever bought from them has lasted a looong time. Heck, my sister has my DVD player from 2005 or so (also my Sony 735D for bedroom)

For our Reading Service on our FM network sub-channel we had 3 CD players playing 24/7/365, a Pioneer consumer grade player, a Tascam and Studer commercial grade players. The Pioneer outlasted the other two.

In Post Audio also had a Tascam and Studer commercial grade players. The Studer had a funky low level, low frequency distortion. After some testing I discovered it was the audio transformers used in the balanced audio output so I replaced with Studer’s active balanced output then it performed as expected.

Cool, solid as a rock

My other go to was Technics separates for audio, I’m guessing you are familiar?

No mate, it’s been a horrible couple of weeks. Because of her bladder complications (and bowel removal when she was younger) the surgeons are uncertain if they can proceed with kidney transplant. The risk is huge, mainly because of the bladder, and bladder removal is now a far less desired option as they still think she will have issue post removal.
I can’t to pretend to understand all the technical stuff, but suffice to say, the possibility of dialysis for the rest of her life is a very real possibility.
A daunting and scary prospect.

I have to continue with losing weight and tests just in case the consultants/surgeons can come up with something unexpected, but I must admit, it’s knocked my motivation no end.
I have lost 1 stone and need to lose another five pounds or so. Want to be about 13 stone.

My younger sister is fit and in great shape health wise, but her son continues to have issues related to his brain injury, it’s a worry but he meets his problems with courage and determination, like yourself.

Thanks for thinking of us when you are going through all your health problems, it’s very much appreciated.

I am so sorry that your sister has so many daunting problems and that these may prevent the transplant. "May" is the key word here and we must continue to hope that the transplant will happen. Your sister is tough and she may surprise us yet again.

Keep the faith and keep losing the weight that you need to lose. Even the smallest chance to help her is all the motivation in the world.

I wish your nephew the best, too. His determined spirit and the support of his family will carry him far.

In Post Audio I had a top of the line Technics turntable, don’t remember what arm I used. IIRC, had a Shure V15 Type III cartridge, Sure test and tracking disc, tracking force gauge and lab reference weights to make sure the gauge was accurate. That set-up could track disc that others could not. Used Discwasher for cleaning.

For a lot less money AR (Acoustic Research) made a turntable that was almost as good as the Technics and may have been better at less feedback.

Still have my AR-3a loudspeakers, have not used in many years. I need to re-foam the bass drivers.

Sorry to hear your family health issues continue. Hope you can remain strong for yourself and those you must support. I am now having to take glucose readings once a week.

Isn't that the truth, especially with the switch to the Amlogics.

Let's see, as of this writing, the newer Dune HDs have issues with VC-1, while many Zidoo users have issues with lip-sync on files with DTS (but fixed the VC-1 issues). Didn't really want to mess with the Ugoos, since it sounds like that's also a bit temperamental and requires a bit of tinkering.

They all seem rather rough around the edges at the moment. Still might pick up a Zidoo Z9-8k when they come back in stock in Amazon, just to compare the interface with the Dune. Only interested in local file playback.
