As a consumer most of the drops for physical media really made a lot of sense. Like if a product isn't available of course it doesn't sell. Disney was a major part of the market and they basically fell apart for the last half decade with bad product into no available product at all.

we also had basically no black friday at all last year and way less sales.

Imo most of the drops media has experienced are driven by the studios and retailers not consumers. If your going to put something straight to streaming of course people will wait for sales to buy and if the sales don't happen of course the thing just doesn't sell. They have devalued their product while trying to raise prices of course that goes terribly.

I've often said that most of our differences small and large, heated and petty, would probably disappear pretty quickly if we could just spend some time in each other's home theaters... I'd really love that...

I know that I often straddle the line between staying too far into politics and staying focused on the topic at hand... and increasingly it's going to be impossible for me to stay on the right side of this as our countries fall deeper into war with each other...I am deeply concerned for the safety of my American born wife as this situation devolves...

For me, this goes beyond having to pay the 25% increase in the price of blurays from today on.

I mean almost all Blu rays are produced in mexico so I feel like avoiding tariffs shouldn't be to hard to avoid in Canada. Whats the danger for the american born wife? Canadians attacking her? Americans don't have a specific look or accent so unless Canada goes after individual Americans then I don't see the danger for Americans even the ones in Canada.

Those Mexican blurays don't show up here via plane or boat... they are trucked up through the US and we'll be paying the same mark ups as Americans... but that truly is a minor concern to me...

I'm upset with the news but lets be careful as the mods don't like us to get into it. It's a much bigger issue than the cost of anything but let's just try not to get into or make trouble thereby we can stay in touch.

Pre ordered Flow 4K

Also snagged a few sale items from today. Thanks to this site for not only helping me keep my collection organized but alerting me to the deals.

I think I would have picked up Paddington 2 in town if my walmart had carried the 4K edition. I'm not sure they had it at all.

Yeah... I'll probably just excuse myself from the site as I recognize that it all just seems like rearranging deck chairs in the Titanic to discuss the merits of physical media right now...

But I do think the 25% price increase of physical media is germane to the discussion as i don't see any reason why streaming would have a commensurate increase.

Streaming will raise the prices as much as they can they don't need a reason. They raise prices as much as people put up with it and as often as possible.

Don't go away .... Keep talking.

This has me curious as well. Why do you feel your wife is in danger?

Streaming services keep getting more expensive: all the latest price increases (here).

[Show spoiler]I have my third surgical procedure in just 30 days scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th. I will be leaving for St. Louis tomorrow, March 3rd, as check-in for surgery is usually 6:30 AM. The earliest I can return home will be on March 5th.

It was great news that my prostate biopsy was benign, but I still need surgery to remove part of my prostate as it is partially blocking my bladder and causing damage to it.

I am having a procedure called a Greenlight Laser Prostatectomy done where a cystoscopy probe with a green laser attachment is routed through the urethra to the prostate where the laser can be used by the surgeon to core away the prostate thereby restoring bladder function. The green laser vaporizes the prostate tissue and cauterizes much of the bleeding at the same time.

There are many potential side effects from the common & painful to the rare & life threatening. The potential benefits typically last 5+ years.

I will be under general anesthesia for this procedure. There is a 50% chance of my being hospitalized afterwards. Recovery takes 4-6 weeks.

Here is a 90 second animated video of the procedure:

GreenLight Laser Therapy Animation - YouTube

The Brits have written the best article on the procedure with the potential side effects and the odds of them occurring listed in this article on pages 4-5:

https://www.baus.org.uk/_userfiles/p...Greenlight.pdf

The Brits are so squeamish and polite; they prefer to call the urethra a "water pipe" in this article- as if it carries water.

As always, my heart condition is a factor in all of this making any procedure riskier for me. I am a fragile little thing.

While we all get to enjoy red lasers to read our DVDs and blue lasers to read our blu-rays, I get a green laser to disintegrate my enlarged prostate. That's three lasers to your two; does that mean I win?

Wish me luck. The aftermath is going to be painful and the recovery slow.
Best of luck and God bless!

Picked these up at my local Walmart yesterday:

Cuthtroat Island was on the clearance shelf. I've never seen it, but I remember it being a huge bomb when it was released. Since then, I've heard that it is actually a fun, action packed film.

If I can take a shot in the dark - When everyone around you hates you it's uneasy. I'm not suggesting anyone who knows someone would hate them but sometimes anger is unreasonable.

Canada is being attacked for absolutely no reason at all and has to respond but a senseless attack may warrant senseless responses.

I will just say as an outsider looking in (for now) it’s absolutely disgusting.

Watched Gladiator 2 4K last night, what a stunning disc! I can’t imagine any disc looking or sounding better than this this year. Enjoyed the heck out of the film too.

It just made it through my cut off point. Any discs from April onwards go to 2026 viewing (yes, I’m eccentric)

I believe you will find the PQ on Jackie B to be quite good.

Cutthroat Island is just my kind of junk. Had the LD, DVD and now Blu-ray. The PQ on the BD is better than the previous versions but the Dolby Surround on the LD was the best audio.

What a drag. My order for the UHD BD is still active and I'm looking forward to it however, it's a blind buy.
