If I could get with a set though obviously this wouldn't happen is the Ekonte or however those are spelled. The storyboard books, i've been meaning to collect outside of the 2 I have with the VHS and LD boxes. Those would have been sweet to have in one form or another or released outside of a Video Set.

Heck, I'm sure that the prices for those old DVD sets will crash hard given that the Platinum releases typically were selling for amounts approaching the $175 that it would take to get the Limited Edition w/ legacy ADV/Manga dubs for those hardcore dub fans who are picky about such things.
I think this would be true if it weren't for FMttM. The DVD sets will retain value for being the last truly complete offerings of the original series.

However, since the CE does offer the classic dub and is priced below $200, I do think you're right in that many will be looking to trade in their DVD sets for it.

I was kind of hoping that Gkids would do one of their poster additions if you bought thru their store. Ended up doing pre-order for the Limited CE on RS, didn't want to wait and price go up to $220 (ouch! seriously). I wish the book was a little more substantial than 40pgs. I'm not supper happy with the price, but I expected it. Basically paying $130 more for a rigid box, some postcards and the 40 page book. Surprised at the price of SE, thought it would be more.

But the difference in price after shipping and taxes between UK ultimate edition and either American or UK collectors is only $80 or $90

The outer box looks gorgeous, IMO. The red emergency panel lights against the black background is a wonderful contrast and really highlights the tension of the series.

I am happy to see that literally ALL of the on-disc content from the UE still made it onto the CE. That's honestly way more than I was expecting.

It's a little plain for my liking. I do like the cases being stored in a box, that's the main draw for me along with the art cards and booklet.

Well, I think I’m going to keep my Ultimate Edition preorder. I’m not a fan of the Collectors Edition artwork and I want all the discs so the standard edition is out for me as well. Glad there are some options for everyone else. Though they are really making you pay if you want the old dub.

Could've sworn the announcement time would've been later than this, but okay. Doesn't seem like we lost anything beyond the physical goods, although being $220 for the Collector's Edition overall is still a bit chunky (discount aside). But at least it'll still be shelf friendly, if that image from the email is any indication.

I wonder what would be missing from the excerpted version of the book. If it's just the summary of each episode + credits, that's would be fine by me. It's the standard for both the ADV releases and the Rebuild movies.

The CE box reminds me of the Japanese Blu-ray set, but a bit nicer looking and easier on the eyes.

Funny that the standard version comes out a month before the other editions.

If there's no picture quality or edit differences I may watch the classic subbed version first and check out the classic dub afterwards. Not in a hurry to revisit the Netflix edition.

The lack of Fly Me to the Moon and the ADV dub and Manga dubs from the standard edition will ensure the DVDs remain valuable. Prices may go down some, but they'll remain high because the old dubs will be exclusive to the sold out Ultimate Edition, and the Collector's Edition (which will have scalping as there's a 2 per limit, not 1, though no word on if RightStuf will impose one) which while we don't know the unit count, is also limited.

The FUNimation Rebuild releases will also remain high if they too have the original dub locked behind an expensive and limited release if that happens.

I never, ever want to see another art complaint from anyone who buys the CE about a Funi or Sentai LE’s art choices.

The checklist at the bottom of the primary listing page shows that the "Bonus Classic Version" (i.e. ADV dub) of Neon Genesis Evangelion is not included in the standard edition, nor is the corresponding "Bonus Classic Version" (i.e. Manga Entertainment dub) of Death[True]² and EoE included.

I know you're referring primarily to the CE, but this is my take in general about the cover art choices for GKIDS' three Evangelion releases: It could look like the "Official Bootleg Edition" of the Army of Darkness Director's Cut DVD (seen below) and I still wouldn't give a crap.

It's Eva TV + EoE. On Blu-ray. For as little as $50.

That's right. There's no classic dub on the standard release. There are a couple of different comparison tables further down on the website if you want to get a look at what each set has compared to the others.

I don't see where all the negativity is coming from. The CE art is minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing. While I certainly like a lot of the art in the Ultimate Edtion, the Collector's IMO has the best artwork for its buck. The outer box, anyway - the disc cases do look ugly as hell and I'll probably print out custom artwork for them.

Don't forget the omission of the video format edition of End of Evangelion.

Which I assume covers its own disc, explaining the odd number of discs and why the standard edition covers only 5 of 11.

It does cover its own disc. The article from Polygon covering the Ultimate Edition had a higher-res image of the set w/ its discs splayed out, and I managed to read the following text on the surface of Disc #6:

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION
BONUS CONTENT

THE END OF EVANGELION (Video Format version)
Episode:25' Love is destructive.
ONE MORE FINAL: I need you.

Not that I can tell the difference between the two dubs as I have literally never watched even a single episode in that manner, but logically speaking it's 99.999999% certain that Khara would only grant approval for a promo using English audio if it featured the "official" Netflix/VSI dub.
