NEW YORK -- Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky is telling NBC that he is innocent of child sex abuse charges that shocked the sports world and resulted in the firing of coach Joe Paterno.

In a telephone interview with Bob Costas for NBC News' "Rock Center," airing Monday night, Sandusky also denies accusations that he is a pedophile.

Sandusky, who founded a charity for disadvantaged youth, acknowledges that he showered with some boys after workouts and shouldn't have done so.

Paterno was fired last Wednesday for failing to do enough about a 2002 report alleging that Sandusky raped a young boy in the Penn State football showers.

The Associated Press has made several efforts to reach Sandusky by phone and through his attorney, but messages haven't been returned.

This is just laughable. Nobody showers with kids who they aren't related to. There seems to be a mountain of eye witness testimony related to this case. Sandusky is done.

I'm so glad he practically admitted it by accident (though that it's basically confirmed is troubling to think about) because he's so messed up in the head. The prosecutors job is already so much easier now.

I also read that from the investigation years ago the police listened in to Sandusky being confronted by the mother of a kid he molested. Sandusky more or less admitted to illegal activity not knowing cops were listening in.

I believe the only reason the case was never pursued was because the prosecutor disappeared and has never been seen since. I really do hope they investigate possible links between the prosecutor disappearance and the original Sandusky case. It might be a mere coincidence, but you never know.

I personally don't believe that for a second. Someone made the Centre County DA disappear, it just feels like a professional killing. Whoever did it knew what they were doing.

I finally listened to the whole interview Sandusky gave NBC. It made no sense for him to do that. He came off sounding terrible and incriminating himself. I can't believe his lawyer didn't stop him from doing that interview.

The NYT was reporting that 11 more victims have come forward. This is going to get worse before it gets better

Yep , the guy on OTL from Kansas State who deals with child issues like these said usually the amount you get to come forward is only in the 10-15% range so you figure 80-100+ kids

Also I just heard the lawyer whose repping Sandusky knocked up a 17 year old when he was in his forties... Nice

Here's the Sandusky interview disaster. The whole interview he just comes off as a pedophile. His lawyer is an idiot for allowing him to go ahead with that interview.

The decision not to prosecute Sandusky occurred long before the prosecutor (Ray Gricar) disappeared. Gricar decided in 1998 not to prosecute Sandusky and didn't disappear until 2005. It isn't believed there's a link between Gricar's disappearance and his decision not to prosecute Sandusky.

After Sandusky is thrown in bubba's jail for life, Penn State should throw a parade for Bob Costas for helping the prosecution.

Yeah, I've read some articles and heard some interviews with lawyers and legal analysts and every single person said his lawyer should never have let him do that interview. It hurt his case so much and may end up netting him more prison time.

Also, Costas did not know he was going to interview Sandusky. He thought he was going to interview the lawyer and then right before the interview started the lawyer asked if he'd like to talk to Sandusky, with Costas obviously saying yes.

Ya, I posted the related video a few days ago. Between that and Sandusky writing an autobiography titled "Touched" you have to wonder if this guy was just flaunting what he was doing for many years now. After getting away with it for at a minimum 13 years and probably far longer I can certainly see why he bought he'd never get busted.

Here's some interesting comments on Joe Amednola, Sandusky's attorney, from New York criminal and civil rights attorney Tom Harvey:

“He seems more focused on getting himself on as many national news shows as he can, rather than protecting his client. This is rather ironic, since the only person in the United States legally obligated to vigilantly defend Sandusky has taken it upon himself to encourage his client to waive the most basic constitutional right every criminal defendant in the country has, which means the right to remain silent. Instead, this guy Amendola has practically begged his client to talk.”

“My colleagues and I are absolutely baffled as to why a licensed attorney would allow Sandusky to go on national TV and admit that he was naked in the shower with little boys and that he touched little boys all the time. Perhaps Mr. Amendola is one of those attorneys who promises to get you out of jail when you’ve done all of your time.

“This guy (Sandusky) has actually been out of the headlines the past few days while the media’s attention was focused on the apparent coverup by Joe Paterno and many others at Penn State. And what does his lawyer do? He talks his client into going on national TV to be interviewed by Bob Costas and make numerous statements that will surely come back to haunt him in any criminal or civil case.

“And on top of all that, and in his desperate desire to get his 15 minutes of fame, Amendola shows amazing lack of judgment by trashing child abuse victims on national TV in hopes of getting some positive publicity for his client. These two are made for each other.”
