I like to go for walks but people in Florida generally aren't comfortable with folks like walking around the neighborhood. They give me angry looks. My daughter goes to school there and maybe we will sell it after she graduates. These days, I like being home and staying home and I generally walk on the treadmill now.

I'll be on Montreal on Friday, wish me luck. I will not be wearing a baseball cap !

Not sure if you're going to be up there for business or pleasure but if you get a chance, try and swing a couple of days in Quebec city...Montreal is a unique big north American city... but Quebec city is, by a very wide margin, the most beautiful city this side of the Atlantic...

I'm just there for the airport this time.

We have gone there before to visit friends who have family there.

Almost every graphics card has three DisplayPort outputs and only one HDMI, to save money, and it seems that players largely prefer it this way for some reason. I need one HDMI 2.1 for my 120 Hz VRR TV and to send sound to the AV receiver. DisplayPort does not carry sound. But I now use my only HDMI for the monitor. If I switch that 5K 120 Hz monitor to DisplayPort, I lose VRR and have to use glitchy DSC (compressed colors) instead of RGB 4:4:4. So I need a new graphics card. Hoping for the Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT in a few months, if the scalpers will stop buying up all the cards with their automated programs. The user Necril here suggested a splitter, but I'd rather not turn the computer off, switch the output and turn it back on.

"Does have two DisplayPort 2.1A and two HDMI. That's gonna be interesting because people that are running triple monitor might not be happy with the fact that they only have two DisplayPort 2.1A outputs. They could run HDMI to DP adapter but in terms of just keeping it simple when it comes to any sort of a surround setup, uh Eyefinity... Anyway, just having three of the same plug is gonna make life easier. So, I'm kind of surprised that they went this route instead of just having... I'm wondering if they could have had three DP 2.1A and then two HDMI. Now, having the extra HDMI is kinda nice. The reason for that is a lot of people like to run sensor panels and stuff now. If you run a sensor panel you usually utilize the only HDMI. But I know that they didn't want to no longer support those people that have HMDs or VR headsets, which are always running HDMI. Some actually moved to DP and such, but, HDMI, having more than one is a nice thing. Kind of complain that we only have one HDMI on most graphics cards now, but I wouldn't wanna give up a DisplayPort for it. So, kind of a trade-off there."

Didn't even talk about the fact that most gaming monitors only have DP 1.4 and the colors are (more) compressed, because, as a "gamer," he only cares about the speed and performance, not the colors. Didn't mention that HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 are both far more common than DP 2.1. Eyefinity? I have not used it; didn't even know what it did until now. Who here uses it? I use a third party software to switch between TV and monitor, or did before getting this HDMI 2.1 monitor. What's the benefit in doing it with the AMD feature that, apparently, according to him, works better if all displays are DP?

"Now, having the extra HDMI is kinda nice. The reason for that is a lot of people like to run sensor panels and stuff now."

No, they don't. I don't believe him. Can't even remember seeing it. Probably I did, but can't remember. It's important for monitors and TVs foremost. Why would he name this niche of niche reason first?

It is doable but would be difficult to do and I would say > 99% of the recipients would not know what they were looking at. I believe Elecard (here) can do some standalone video analysis but the truest test would require source masters and that is not likely to happen.

For newer releases most Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray will come from a DCI-P3 trim pass from the content owner. Kaleidescape receives a mezzanine file* from the content owner and they create a file that you rent and/or purchase.

*A high probability it will be one of the 7 versions of Apple ProRes. A (the?) VP of Kaleidescape was posting at AVS like mezzanine files were the end all be all of AV files. I responded a mezzanine file(s) is nothing more than another name for a distribution file(s). I asked for the specific file type because some of the ProRes versions have a quality loss. At this point he was clearly agitated with me and refused to answer.

A little bit of news from my ongoing saga:

[Show spoiler]I just got my home heart monitor connected and set-up; there was some shaving involved, too.

I have to wear this thing for the next three weeks. My most recent ECG found a new abnormality: a right bundle branch block (RBBB).

"Right bundle branch block is an obstacle in your right bundle branch that makes your heartbeat signal late and out of sync with the left bundle branch, creating an irregular heartbeat."

I am also experiencing palpitations nearly every day, sometimes by themselves and occasionally with other symptoms at the same time. Consequently, I get to wear this contraption for three weeks:

It pairs with its own smartphone to transmit the data in real time to my cardiologist's office. I have to keep this extra phone within 10' feet of me for it to be able to transmit the data, which means I also get to carry two phones with me now.

Added bonus: I am allergic to the adhesive that holds the heart monitor to my chest. I am allergic to all such adhesives. Good thing that I ONLY have to wear it for three weeks.

Yet another obstacle, you have so much to deal with.

Oh, and don’t be going watching films on that phone device!

[Show spoiler]I too have palpitations occasionally and had a to wear a heart monitor for two weeks. The monitor had several probes attached to it. The monitor was not water proof so I fixed a large trash bag over my shoulders so I could shower. The cardiologist could not find anything wrong with my thumper.

Shoot! I've made so many FLAC tracks (mostly from PCM and 16-bit DTS tracks) the last few years and only now realized they need a 14 millisecond delay. Was suspicious before, but finally looked at the spectral graphs a few minutes ago. This is gonna take ages to fix.

Edit: What a relief... It's only the DTS conversions that needed delays. Most DTS tracks are 24-bit and more tedious to convert, so I didn't bother until recently and with only a few. PCM conversions, which make up the majority, are in sync already.
