first page is very very out of date. the search thread feature and asking are your best bets.

does anyone by chance have a 'template' for gimp that I can use? I'm gonna try to make a cover using Gimp.

Question Printing

Office Max decided to stop printing covers for me... so now I'm not sure what to do.

I was looking for a post on here where someone had found an online retailer that you could send your files to and they would print them out for you, cut them to size, and ship them out to your home. But now I can't seem to find that post.

Can anyone help me out or am I crazy?

I don't have any suggestions, but out of curiosity, what was their reasoning to refuse to print a cover, if you don't mind me asking?

Hello to everyone here.

I noticed since pulling away from this thread, that I still get lots of requests for covers. So I've decided that since my work can be found on back pages, I would keep posting here on occasion when I have a new design to preview.

I am still trying to go by the same rules I did before for obtaining my covers, but I encourage all who are interested to send me a PM and maybe something can be worked out!

Previews to all my covers can be found linked in my sig; I keep my preview page up to date, so you can see all my work any time there.

Well, it's been a while since I've been here, so I have a few to show you all.

NOTE 1: I will first state that when you see my Apollo 13 cover, you will notice it is written in Roman Numerals... I designed the front of this cover to match the insignia/patch for the Apollo 13 mission. On that patch they used Roman Numerals to say the mission number, so I did so on my cover too!

NOTE 2: Also, there is a second version to my Lion King cover that can be seen on my preview page in my sig. The cover is pretty well the same, with the exception of a few minor changes.

NOTE 3: The image of the girl on the front cover for Splice is a custom Wacom Tablet drawing by another cover designer and good friend of mine. He does drawings like that one by had using his tablet in Photoshop, so I have to give a big thanks to him for creating that for me!

Apollo XIII

The Breakfast Club

Kick-Ass

The Lion King

Splice

Enjoy!

Not that anyone really cares, because I don't share many covers, but I'm through. 9covers.com has one of my cover up listed as "artist unknown" (even though I have a "cover design by" credit on the back). I politely asked the owner of the site to take it down, and he replied calling me a moron, a pissant, cussing at me telling me to stop complaining, his covers get posted on other sites, so tough sh**. I love making covers, and I love getting feedback, but I've had way too many bad experiences with these sites that I'm just gonna stop. It seems "porter" and "Alphazone" are the ones just going to other sites, stealing artwork and posting them as artist unknown. The thing that really irks me is Sandman (the sysop) encourages people to thank people when they download the cover, but is rude as hell to me. So basically, thank the guy who stole it, but forget about the person who actually put their time and effort into designing the cover. I hope none of you have similar experiences.

I wouldn't get upset over it broganreynik, 9Covers has been a known haven for cover theft since I came on the scene. I have covers there and on a few other sites that I never added myself and have learned to just accept it. In our hobby there is really no way to prevent it (I guess without stopping all together). IMO, it's not worth the grief!

But that's just my thoughts!

Can anyone PM me a link to a good Dr. Strangelove cover? It's the one I can't find, and the links here are all broken.

Glad to have you back Bpm.

@Milambian
Office Max says it's a copyright violation to print any photos not owned by the customer (unless it's for educational purposes). Any suggestions for me from any users on here would be greatly appreciated, short of going out and buying my own color laser printer.

Hmm, that's too bad. I guess I can understand their reasoning behind it, they're just covering themselves, but that certainly doesn't help your situation. Good luck to you!

MJ, I find that places like that are hit and miss... I print my stuff at Kinkos and they don't care what it is I'm printing, but others seem to not want to.

I figured if anyone there ever said anything, that I would just say it's for school!

I guess the only real way to avoid an issue is by printing at home!
