The original Tweet's been deleted, but director Ujicha (of Violence Voyager/Burning Buddha Man) seems to be struggling with getting his latest film finished after his producer went AWOL, leading to a knock-on effect on his well-being. Maybe Adam is already aware, but mentioning it here anyway in case he might be able to help? Not sure how well the Blu-Ray set did and if a TWF-produced crowdfund would be viable.

I really enjoyed that Ujicha set, I've never seen anything quite like them in almost any aspect but I really enjoyed and was intermittently horrified by both. I don't expect crowdfunding will happen but for the record, I'd be all in.

It's a DVT platform, so the film won't be available to screen at any more festivals, in theatres or on physical media.
It’s now on the platform with 740 copies left, only costs a mere ¥14,850 (£78!)

That might seem like a steep price, but think about all the bytes you get. And 8 times as many bits!

Roadstead - DVT platform
Unlike streaming platforms offering unlimited viewing, Roadstead’s biggest selling point is that it treats films which only exist online as a physical item just like a DVD. Not only can the user enjoy watching the movie, but they can sell it to someone else or earn income by renting it out. Without exception, all the films we’ll be releasing will be limited editions and have a serial number attached. They can only be used by the person who purchased them. In addition to enjoying the movie, users can participate in its distribution (trading) through buying and selling with the rights fees returned to the exhibitor from the takings. The user is no longer simply a consumer, but can directly support the exhibitor’s activities financially. By expanding the Web3-like concept as the world’s first “DVT” or Digital Video Trading platform, Roadstead hopes to offer filmmakers fair compensation and a sustainable creative space.
The idea of creating the infrastructure to trade digital licenses is interesting, but ultimately this is designed to create scarcity and leads to a few people with too much money getting something and everyone else either missing out or turning to piracy.
If one of the people that buys it makes it available to rent for a sensible price I'd do that, but I don't see why the original rights holder doesn't retain exclusive rental rights, I'd wager they'd make a lot more money that way.

River is on Film4 tomorrow at 23:25.
Looked at Friday's listings and saw Wild Card... but it's the one with Jason Statham.

Word on the street is that more Sogo Ishii movies are coming out on blu ray. Labyrinth of Dreams being the next one.

Oh, is that a sign that Third Window is close to getting VITAL soon?

Adam, a few months back you said that you would look into EYES OF THE SPIDER / SERPENT’S PATH for a possible blu ray release when it was mentioned that both films now have hi-def masters. Did anything come of this?

There's a couple of (used) copies of the Tartan Vital on eBay for less than £5.00, if that's any help.

Just need a photo of the disc, and don’t have time to wait for it to be posted to Japan

Don’t think it’ll be feasible now as they’ll want to recoup the costs of the new 4k masters and with the remake i’m sure they’ll be aiming at big numbers for acquiring the rights
