Kind of. The amount used to just power a screen with no graphics at 5" and 7" would obviously draw more power on the 7" but it's minuscule compared to a resolution difference. Usually the main draw from a battery is the amount of pixels being pushed (and cpu/gpu but we're just talking about the screen) and not the size of the screen. Think of a PC. You can have a 24" monitor that has a max res of 1920x1080. Crysis comes out and you're trying to push all settings on max at 1920x1080 and can't do it. Lower it to 640x480 and you probably could. The screen size is the same, graphics settings are the same but you need much more power for more pixels. That's why the 3DS generally has better battery life than a Vita (3-8 hours compared to 3-5). It's not just because the graphics are less or that it's two different chipsets (although that certainly does factor in). It's because one is pushing more than twice the pixels.

I could definitely see a Switch enhanced in a couple years. Smaller bezel which would make the screen bigger, slightly stronger battery, enhanced joycons (same size but maybe buttons different/ slightly larger), better screen quality (maybe oled and gorilla glass). I wouldn't want this but maybe they'll add a camera in the next version.

I do not post, often just read/lurk. since launch day I have truly been enjoying the switch. thankfully no issues that I am aware of. I do have a question, and excuse me if it has been answered or is easily found. each time I enter the eshop I have to enter my password, I looked through settings...is there a way to disable this?

Yes. Click on your profile icon in the top left of the main screen, then go to User Settings, then Nintendo eShop Settings. It will launch the eShop and there in the right panel go down to Password-Entry Settings and change it to Skip Password. Right now you have it on Enter.

Good write up on the internal NAND vs SD vs carts. Main takeaways.

What I hate is if there's an SD card in, games download to it. There's no prompt asking if you want it on internal storage or not. I only have a 1GB SD card for screenshots, I don't want games on it. But when I downloaded the Splatoon 2 Test Fire, it installed on the SD card. Which means when they eventually open up the Virtual Console, I'll have to remove the SD card each time I want to download a game to the internal storage. This sucks.

Any console is a work in progress these days for the first year or two. Both the PS4 and Xbone released in a pretty crappy state back in 2013. Only this year I've started considering buying a current gen console now that I see that there's a library and most problems have been ironed out.

I was at a Gamestop store earlier today. I was mainly there to pick up Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 for Xbox One (the physical release of that on Xbone and PS4 is Gamestop exclusive).
While there, I noticed that on the shelves for the switch games and even behind the counter they had several "display only" switch game cases for the Expansion Pack for Zelda BOTW. I asked the guy working there if the dlc code actually came in a case like that if I were to buy it there (I know that may seem odd, but there have been past instances of that sort of thing for other systems). He said that it didn't (the code just prints up on the receipt) and the boxes were just for display to advertise the pack.... but that they had so many of those display boxes that if I bought the expansion there, he would just give me one. Since I hadn't bought it yet, but was already planning to in the very near future, I went ahead and got it there. Not that I really "need" the case, but it is still kind of neat to have. ![]() Last edited by Dynamo of Eternia; 03-17-2017 at 04:02 PM. |
