Just went into Sanity they have a cheaper re-release of the first two Maze Runner films as a single 4K release. Also doesn't include any special features except audio commentary. EzyDVD have Single 4K listings for Shape of Water and Red Sparrow. Hopefully this is the start of cheaper 4K releases

![]() And with Red Sparrow UHD only $3 cheaper than the UHD+BD, I’d rather pay the extra $3 (or same price with “TSOW”) and be able to watch extras and/or watch the movie in another room or a mates place. Don’t give a shit about the digital. Plus, it is interesting to note that Sanity and JB haven’t got listings for single UHD only Shape of Water/Red Sparrow. While it’s quite possible that the EzyDVD listings are correct, I hope that the UHD/BD combo continues forever... For the betterment of the format (futureproofing). In the USA, the majority of new release 1080pBD still come with DVD copies, even older first time releases, like Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke, was a DVD/BD combo. The BD+DVD trend is something that should have continued here to help push Blu-Ray, which has a poor market share vs. DVD... ‘Cos sadly, most troglodytes are still buying and watching f*cking DVD’s on their 4K TVs. ![]() ![]() Bunch of savages in this country. I 'queried' Arrow re VAT on our purchases.... ![]() The way our business is structured means that for distribution outside of domestic UK and the EU, we have additional costs outside of pure logistics and administration. This in turn requires us to charge proportionately more for export sales. The business came to the decision in order to keep pricing as simple as possible, the additional costs to overseas distribution would be borne by not changing the price charged to our customers, albeit the product price paid by an overseas customer is a gross cost excluding any UK VAT whatsoever, so indeed the price an overseas customer pays does not have any sales tax attributed by Arrow. We hope this clarifies things for you. More confusion.... a parcel from Amazon UK... via DHL,,,,, Monday, April 23, 2018 Location Time Piece Awaiting collection by recipient as requested SYDNEY - AUSTRALIA 6:33 12 Forwarded for delivery SYDNEY - AUSTRALIA 16:33 anyone know what the hell this means ... as requested ?? Got an Auspost card dropped - but no details on it - no number - PO state 'they know nuthin' ' Quote:
You know what this will mean.. and as pointed out by Rick.....'cheaper' 4K discs sans BD... sans extras... and at the same price. It becomes too 'expensive' for the local distributors to package 2 disc types.... like what they did with DVDs on the local BD releases... and Disney with 3D sets.. sans the 2D....... just got rid of them. Look @ Westworld 4K... no BD in that.... bar the expensive version We need to face the blunt facts.... DVDs are still 'out there'. Caught an Target TV advert for Pitch Perfect 3..... out on DVD.... and that was it. Consumers are still buying them...... Last edited by shireguy; 04-25-2018 at 01:11 AM. |

OK. Over the last few days, I've been catching up on my collection thanks to the school holiday break. So far, I've watched-
-Boyhood -The New World (Extended Cut) -The Cocoanuts -The Party -Phantasm 3 -An episode of Twin Peaks (from Season 2) -Michael Moore's Where to Invade Next (on TV) -Blue Velvet, and -Nine episodes of Freaks and Geeks. Also, I just purchased in JB- -Beastie Boys: Solid Gold Hits CD, and -FrontLine: The Complete Collection Just a question, is there a reason why Anime is so expensive in Australia? How come a 2-disc set of One Piece costs $48, especially when there's over 40 sets of the show at the same price? I feel for the poor soul who shells out that much for each set. |

![]() 1080pBD Downsizing is an uneven story trying to blend science fiction, humour and a drama with a social conscience. And for the most part, it doesn’t work. The basic plot revolves around Matt Damon who decides to shrink himself and his wife down to 5 inches in size and live in a community where his meagre capital of $150,000 will be worth $1.5 million... And of course, he will be helping the environment by producing much less waste, but there is a turn of events that ensures his “Downsizing” is not going to result in financial independence and a disposable income. Downsizing director Alexander Payne’s brilliant movie Election is bound by a screenplay that knows where it is going, how to extort satire, drama and comedy from a story. Unfortunately, Downsizing fails to elicit the same tone that made Election a great flick. A lot of things do “work” throughout the whole film, but due to an uneven screenplay, Downsizing is nothing spectacular. The viewer is thrown from banal science fiction to mild comedy to melancholic drama by the time it settles in to an even story. The moral appears to the viewer too late to be interesting. When the film begins to hit it’s true tone, conveying that no matter how much a new invention may try to solve the world’s overpopulation and global warming crisis, others will have nefarious applications. By this time, you are a little weary and bored as another moral becomes apprent: The notion that no matter how much we try to ensure we live a utopian lifestyle, a class system will always exist. Where there is affluence, on the flip side, there is poverty. Thus, we follow Matt Damon and co. thusly, throughout the second half of the film. By this time, many of the “small” gags are gone and the serious tone leaves you wanting to go back to some humour or wishing for the film to finish. By the time we get to the closing moments, the humour returns to contrast the gloomy tone (including one last “laugh out loud funny” sight gag), but by now the movie has gone on too long, and the ending just barely salvages what is essentially an average film. The high level of acting and great ensemble cast, including Christoph Waltz, also assists in keeping the viewer engaged, but for the most part, Downsizing misses out on a lot of opportunities to entertain and at almost 2.5 hours, a bit too long, considering the subject. Worth a look, but don’t expect much. Recommended. 7/10. Watched: Anzac Day ![]() Japanese Extended Cut The best movie made about the “day that will live in infamy”, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7 1941, that brought the US into WWII. One of the most expensive movies ever made (at the time) and what eventuates on screen was worth every penny, from the massive sets to the brilliant stunt work. Tora, Tora, Tora is a factual and accurate account of the infamous sneak attack. A gripping human story shown from both the Japanese and US POV. The film has a documentary feel to it that works very well in this context. While it is not the kind of tale that follows various individuals, focusing on their personal lives (which was why Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor sucked, among other things); it is a highly entertaining tale that shows the mistakes made by the US, in not seeing the attack coming. How the Japanese failed to declare war in time due to bureaucratic bungling and ultimately, both the fortuitous nature of the Japanese attack AND their biggest misfortune, in missing out on destroying the US carrier fleet (which ultimately led to the turning point of the Pacific theatre at the Battle of Midway). The film’s accuracy is fantastic and had the actual Japanese military strategist, Ganda, who oversaw the plan to attack Pearl Harbor, as the films technical advisor. “Tora” also had Akira Kurosawa writing the first screenplay and him directing the Japanese POV, until Kurosawa suffered from burnout and had to be replaced. Tora has some great SFX from the use of miniatures, showing the Japanese carrier fleet on it’s way to Pearl Harbor, and the stunt work is terrific. The last hour of the film, that is made up solely of the attack, is brilliantly done, considering the knowledge that the explosions and effects are real. Something that is missing from today’s safety concious workplace and world of CGI. The film even features a couple of sequences where the stunts went wrong; one scene where a plane goes out of control, hitting a bunch of planes rigged to explode and therefore the stuntman playing the US troops are actually seen running for their lives... I always thought it looked chaotic and a special feature confirmed it was an out of control stunt (Note: No one was seriously hurt). The cast features many great supporting role character actors, none more prolific than Jason Robards, who was actually at Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, serving in the military. It is therefore apt that he play the Pearl Harbor commander. The film is ably acted by all, including the Japanese actors. The first half is a little sterile, as it sets up the attack, but still has a degree of suspense. But after the intermission (at the 85 minute mark), it is pretty much all suspense and action from then until the end. As I touched on before, Tora, Tora, Tora looks at the key players involved and drops the notion that a film about Pearl Harbor has to have a love triangle romance tacked on to the plot, as it did with that horrible and forgettable Michael Bay film. While the film is slightly dated by the use of miniatures for SFX (albeit minimal) and old school green screen in a handful of shots, otherwise, Tora, Tora, Tora is a very good film and a must see for those with an interest in history. Highly to very highly recommended. 8.5/10. |
