It takes time and money to do most things right.

Other people not taking full advantage of your set-up does not matter. Lead a horse to water and all that. You presumably spent this money and effort for your benefit. Anyone else enjoying the fruits of your labor is just icing on the cake.

agree, I only included that because picking an AR is not a "have to" but a "nice to be able to". aqnd I don't appreciate that that niceness was taken away because of shifting AR

I watch a movie to be entertained. A movie that merely meets my most minimum of expectations will almost certainly displease me. Not being entertained by a move makes it a waste of my time.

Any movie from any genre can be disappointing. No genre confers immunity.

And I have to add that bad pizza is NEVER good. It is an abomination.

I very much disagree. Expecting something as a given does not mean that you will like what you actually get. Slasher movies are not satisfying just because someone gets slashed- that's just meeting the most minimum of expectations.

I like Zombie movies as a genre, but some of them are really bad and not worth viewing, much less owning, despite having zombies aplenty and despite those zombies killing their hapless victims on cue.
The 4th and 6th one are both superior. I think you have to be a horror fanatic, us geeks get caught up in Jason’s design, the kills, the final girls, the make up FX, etc..
ditto other horror franchises. But that doesn’t mean I can’t switch to much more intellectually challenging fare in an instant, so it’s all good.

I believe that genre is well represented in my collection.

I very much like horror movies, just not horrible movies.

I haven't seen it or any of the sequels, but I would bet that it is horrible sight unseen based on what portion I saw of the original. Sequels are rarely better than the first movie and that is usually even more true the further we get from the original movie.

They don’t need to be better, just entertaining in their own right. I mean, I adore the original Halloween, it’s a classic. But I also enjoy RZ’s efforts, and the new trilogy, even though the quality of the original will always shine through.

Some series actually improve as they go on. Smile 2 for example is superior to the first, as is Terrifier 2 and 3, Hostel 2, F13th part 4 and 6, and some of the Saw sequels are quite good, namely 2,3,6 and X.

Ditto for remakes, The Hills Have Eyes, Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers (70’s), The Fly, The Thing are all examples of vastly superior horror remakes.

Horror for me is probably the equivalent to westerns for some on this forum. A hugely successful genre that differs in quality but doesn’t necessarily need to be a classic to be entertaining.

It’s just my era (VHS) and my love for it never left me. (Just like film in general!)

When the first movie sucks, as this one does IMO, then, yes, the sequels do need to be better, a whole LOT better!

If I am entertained then I am happy, but the sequels are usually less than the movie that began the franchise.

Remakes are another matter, but I will take Vincent Price's The Fly over Jeff Goldblum's without any hesitation. Goldblum can't hold a candle to Vincent Price.

Agreed but Geena Davis can hold candles to and do pretty much whatever she wants to me.

I’m not talking about this particular one, I mean your assumption that the original is always the best in a series, obviously if you think the original sucks, then that’s not a comparison.

Vincent price is fantastic, I own several of his best horror movies, but The Fly remake is vastly superior mate. It’s a well known fact in my street. Just ask Mrs Davies, three down, she knows!

Watched 2001: A Space Odyssey on 4K last night. Watched Eyes Wide Shut this morning. Now watching Devil May Cry S1 on Netflix. It's in DV/Atmos on there and it's pretty cool. It's only 8 episodes.

I also caught on Bosch Legacy via PRIME and watched the first two episodes of Your Friends and Neighbors.

Theatrically also saw Warfare and The Amateur -- both are winners. It was a busy week of media!

I saw both as well and thought Warfare was the much better film. The Amateur was fine but didn't elicit any emotion from me whereas Warfare did.

It was one of the extremely few movies that I walked out on, so it is true that I do not know the whole story. What I did see was soooo bad that I could in no way believe that enduring the rest of it would accomplish anything other than to extend my suffering. My leaving the theater was medically indicated.
