Everything is going up in price, but this Thread is about Digital Movies and TV Shows and where they are headed. All you guys talk about is buying Discs, and nothing about will the Studios keep making them if the Market is not there. Amazon, AppleTV, Hulu, Paramount+, and other Streaming Providers have many new Movies and TV Shows coming out all the time. Shows and Movies like Bosch, The Bondsman, Ghosted, and Another Simple Favor are only a few that Streaming has to offer. IMO Streaming is The Future!

You are replying here to a post of mine that was made in the Home Video Sales thread more than 12 hours ago. You moved your above comment here AFTER I replied to it there. More dishonesty on your part.

Seeing as you moved your comment here, I will copy my reply here:

The thread topic does include the sale of digital copies, but all you want to talk about here is physical media, which you do not buy and you have no intentions of buying. You never discuss digital sales, which is something that you actually do buy. You are just here to stir things up...as usual.

You ask why we do not discuss your hypothetical question:

"will the Studios keep making them [discs] if the Market is not there?"

It is not discussed because it is just a hypothetical question, but more importantly because the answer to it is abundantly obvious. No company will keep making a product, any product, if there is no market for it.

Was that something you really needed to ask? Was the answer so difficult to decipher that you needed us to answer your question for you?

Your question was dishonest because it was asked in bad faith. You already knew the answer to it; the answer was beyond obvious. Further, you do not care about the disc market at all because, again, you do not buy them and you do not intend to buy them.

You know that most people here care about physical media. You just want to remind us as often as you can that disc sales are down and prices are up because you take pleasure in doing it.
You are trolling, both in this thread and in the Home Video Sales thread, and it is far from your first offense.

Yeah, that’s one heck of a post-mortem.

My take on all this is that Alchav doing what he does in this thread is fair play, given the nature of the thread, but sadly, I have noticed him spreading his nonsense to many other threads, injecting his falsehoods where they don’t belong imo.

I have been collecting discs for 25 years, and this last couple of years have been amongst the most enjoyable. Is it more expensive? Slightly, yes. Are some of the limited edition offerings slightly on the steep side, absolutely. But we all knew this would come, it’s the natural order when a format is very mature.
Whenever it ends, and I still think we are years away from that, I will have enough back catalogue to enjoy two movies a week for around 15 years, with no fear of content being edited, censored, taking quality dives due to bitrate starved compression, and that goes for audio too.

I wouldn’t change a thing, it has been glorious, and it will continue to be glorious.

My bank balance tells me disc is very much alive.

We know this is your opinion. You have been telling us this for over a decade now.
He just moved the goalposts when he realised his Digital HD claim wasn’t going to work out, he moved on to general subscription streaming, where of course, movies are just one of many offerings. Movies can (and are) moved around amongst different providers, and you are under pressure to watch stuff, lest they are removed for a long time. You don’t own any of it, and that’s fine.

However, I have always wanted more than fine, Alchav is the type of guy who can’t appreciate the finer details of video and audio, and has convinced himself that a bit rate starved image on a large tv is somehow awesome.
There is no reasoning with people like Alchav, we just have to be happy in the knowledge that we CAN appreciate the finer things, and we continue to be very well served.

As for the comments about price, the irony is completely lost on him, streaming costs are dependant on not just yearly fluctuations in subscribers but political changes and tussles.

I like subscription streaming, but I LOVE discs.

Alchav21,

We know you don't like discs because they offer higher quality audio and video than your internet streaming nonsense and it's real important for you to live in the future!

What about other old fashioned things? Are there notable other sentimental things you actively campaign against?

We have Apple Music but my daughter loves collecting vinyl. How do you feel about that? It's clearly not the future but does it need to be eliminated so you can relax?

After the most recent firmware update (still not officially released on this side of the pond), I've actually started using the 8K E-shift feature (makes me wish that I had my custom HT signage reflect this rather than 4K). I'm not in my HT right now and couldn't tell you what drop down it's under, but my series of JVC has a slider simply called ENHANCE under one of the motion settings.... and don't judge me... but I've actually been able to greatly improve the notoriously bad panning of JVC units WITHOUT introducing any noticeable SOE (which I'm very sensitive to) by moving the slider 2 notches to the dark side ... GOD HELP ME, I've even started using CMD when I watch hockey....

I've been using the 8K upshift also since doing the newer FW.

I find it helps with motion and panning and adds to the image quality.

I never think twice about upscaling 1080p to 4K so I find upscaling to 8K is worth doing if you have the option.

Nothing wrong with enhancements that actually make a positive difference. Best to go baseline long enough to note if something helps or hurts.

For the NZ8 and NZ9 JVC concurred with you and had an Envy between the projector and the Kaleidescape source at the 2022 & 2023 Audio Advice Live events. For the 2024 Audio Advice Live event JVC did not use the Envy with the NZ900 stating it was not needed.

Last I knew Stacey Spears was using a Envy with his direct view LG and Chris Deering was using a Lumagen Radiance Pro with his JVC RS4200 (NZ900) projector. I have programmed my remote for a Radiance Pro but moved all external processors to the back burner for now. I need to learn the ins and outs of the RS3200 to see what it really can do. I will say it can look like a giant LG with the right source content.

Honestly, if discs do fall in North America, it's not Hollywood's fault, it's Walmart's. Walmart is literally the one thing (besides boutique stores, which are basically novelties rather than mainstream stuff) keeping physical alive in North America... Best Buy gave up, Target limited their stock, Redbox is gone, Toys R Us is also gone, Circuit City is gone, all the rental stores are gone. I feel like if Walmart discontinues physical media sales, then it's basically over for North America. Heck, Walmart OWNS Universal and WB's North American physical divisions outright.

You could also mention Amazon, but... that doesn't count, since if people wanted to directly buy rather than stream movies online, they'd just buy them off VUDU or whatever rather than wait a few days for a disc to arrive in the mail.

Worldwide, though, I can see physical lasting a few years longer than North America. Japan sold LaserDiscs almost a decade after North America gave up, and South Korea sold VHS for around six years after North America gave up on that (with the surreal nature of movies like WALL-E and Avatar actually recieveing VHS releases over there). I'd also assume blanks would last a bit longer on the market, but eventually, companies like Verbatim would have to throw in the towel once the Guadalajara, Mexico factory gets sold for demolition in that scenario.

I do hope physical never dies, but in this day and age, who really knows.

I'd also assume blanks would last a bit longer on the market, but eventually, companies like Verbatim would have to throw in the towel once the Guadalajara, Mexico factory gets sold for demolition in that scenario.

I do hope physical never dies, but in this day and age, who really knows.
Collectors have been ordering online for many years now.

I do not consider myself a very serious streamer but I do have Apple TV4K (2 Gen), Apple TV4K (3 Gen), FireTV Cube, Nvidia Shield Pro, Roku Ultra and three smart TV’s. The Apple TV4K (3 Gen) and Nvidia Shield Pro are in the home theater equipment racks.
I swear by my Apple TV, I certainly wouldn’t want to rely on smart tv apps alone.

Exactly. I've been buying discs online exclusively for several years now.

Okay, this is weird. Today, when browsing the forum, I noticed that everyone's avatar has stopped displaying. Tried viewing the forum in three different browsers and get the same result. Is this happening to anyone else or could it be something on my end?
