Well, the website for the theater screwed up & GOTG was "Not" playing in their Dolby Atmos theater, so I ended up seeing "NOVEMBER MAN" (w/Pierce Brosnan) in the Atmos theater instead. I sort of wanted to see that one anyway, & obviously experience the ATMOS audio system mainly. Decent enough movie, not boring or slow really, but although it had some pretty cool action sequences along the way, it wasn't Really the type of movie that would prob showcase the ATMOS system at its best

The girl at the counter said she "thinks" GOTG will be Back in the ATMOS theater in a day or so, but being as it was a 75-min drive there, I'll CALL First before going back. The theater itself was beautiful: Big room, Large screen, & of course, a Sh!t ton of speakers along the L/R walls & in two rows across the top above the stadium seating.

Now that you have a good idea of what the hall looks like, consider where to sit the next time.

Oh I was able to still Pick my seat & I sat almost 2/3 up directly in the middle. Everything sounded great from there. I was originally in the upper row Before the aisle with another 4-5 row section at the Very back, but I moved down about 3 rows. There were 3 sections: the Front 4-5 rows, then the main/middle section (where most people normally sit), then as mentioned, an aisle after that section with the 4-5 rows Behind that area.

Sort of like this:

Front:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Middle/Main seating: (my seat in RED)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Back Section:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm going to take my wife to the Marina AMC tonight to go see GotG. It's one of those Dine In theaters that has the big, wide, red seats that recline. She loves those and I'd like to get a few for my HT. I WON'T, however, buy their stupid, bird sized meals for $20 or drink a $10 glass of house wine or a $12 cocktail. They charge $19 for an evening showing and I only want to get frelling ripped off once. You'll see my $38 in the box office totals for this weekend.

I may only be a miniature poodle, but I need more food than a couple small pieces of meat and a couple stalks of broccoli for $20. God that's annoying.

Wife and I are torn about taking our kids seeing Guardians, as they are really dying to see it, but they are 3 and 5...

I was thus wondering if anyone on the board had went with relatively young children and what their experience was.

For reference, they both love sci fi, robots/ spaceship movies and super heroes, and they are fairly mature for their age (we tried Pacific Rim a little while ago after much discussion, and they not only were not phased or scared by it, they loved it).

More specifically our fears come from the following scenes, which I will put in spoilers .. well.. just in case.

[Show spoiler]
Quill's mother seen dying of terminal stage of cancer
Ronan smashes someone's head with a hammer (off camera)
Collector's slave explodes herself with an Infinity Gem, but not before being seen "peeling away"
Groot impales and bashes a whole line of Alien soldiers
Drax rips an implant out of someone's head
Reaver commander impales a bunch of alien soldiers with a flying arrow
Groot dying... but not really

All in all, I think the humor and Space Opera feel of the whole thing would make it ok, but was curious about possible experiences of forum users.

My cousin took his daughter, she is 3, and she had a blast. She danced with the music and the only time she talked was
[Show spoiler]when she thought Rocket was dead.
She got a little upset, only vocal though, not crying. Everything else you mentioned she didn't react to any of it.

No. I think he means the moment when Rocket crashes his ship into Ronan.

And lands in a heap next to Star-Lord, who picks him up and cradles him in his arms.

Oh yeah, that scene. I want to see it again but I've already seen it 2 times.

The theater they're renovating across the street (the old UA theater) will have the reclining seats without all of that 'dine-in' crap. It should be open this Fall.

If you're comfortable having your kids learn the words "*****", "shit" and "*****" then by all means. My kids won't be seeing this movie until they are 12+. Pacific Rim, while semi-violent, did not have the kind of language that they'll hear in this.

The children are our future, treat them well and let them lead the way.

Yeah she almost broke out crying in that scene. Luckily she just let out a sad "Is Rocket dead?". lol

They will hear all of those words and more when they start school, if they haven't already started.

Ah, actually, it does. It doesn't have a lot of it, but there are a few uses of "sht" and "btch", at the very least. And good luck if you have a child who wants to know what was meant by Kaiju bone powder increasing male potency.

That said, I was quite frankly surprised by the amount of profanity in Guardians of the Galaxy. Again, it wasn't rife with it, but it struck me that there was more of it than there's been in any of the previous MCU movies. Then again, language is getting stronger in a fair number of movies that I would not otherwise consider inappropriate for pre-teens. It's even getting stronger on TV shows aired early in the evening.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens in Japan this week. And James Gunn tweeted the hilarious Japanese trailers.

I liked how the Japanese guy said 'Guardians of the Galaxy' at the end of that Japanese trailer . That was pretty funny .

Nothing could intentionally be that funny. I don't know if that bodes well or ill for the box office, but if they showed that in a theater here, there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house.
