I'm not too bummed out though, I was likely gonna stick with the UE because I'm I love with the laserdisc style packaging and very much want that hardcover book. The CE is just.. mediocre. The outside box has a nice minimalist aesthetic, but those cases are downright ugly. I also just got a new square bookshelf, and the UE will look really nice on top of it displayed with some of the art boards on easels

I just sold off my Pokemon DS games that I haven't touched in a decade, and it more than covered the cost of the UE.
It is only sold out in one place. It is still available on rightstuf and soon shoutfactory.

Not that I'm getting the collectors edition, so I'm not really bothered, but it would've been cool if the bluray cases had covers like the one's in the italian version

Also, wondering if I should sell my laserdiscs now. It's not like I have a player, I mainly just got them for the novelty and the art on the covers, but the UE comes with that art, so I'm not sure they're worth hanging onto...
I'd still keep End of Eva LD boxset though.
I only got them at like the start of this year too, rip

Though, there's still all the stuff in the inside folds, I wonder if that'll be in the book

So, just to be clear the main difference between the two new editions is that the standard doesn't have the ADVD dub, and only has the Netflix dub? Also, something called the video format? What's that? Any help would be appreciated.

Standard edition doesn't include the ADV dub for the tv series or the Manga dub for the movies, and the video format version of End of Evangelion. If you don't care about the dub or slightly altered edition of the movie then you're not missing out on anything.

The ADV and Manga dubs are exclusive to the Ultimate and Collector's editions, and the video format edition of End of Evangelion is exclusive to those as well. The standard has just the Netflix dub for the TV series, End of Evangelion, and Death and Rebirth. Simply if you just want the series and don't care about the extra stuff or the old dubs, go for the standard.

I'm surprised so many people rushing to the ultimate and collectors. I mean if you watch them in English I guess it's a no brainer, but anyone who sticks to the Japanese dub has little to no reason to go for the others.

There actually is. The original subtitles from the DVDs are not on the standard edition, so you're getting a different translation, presumably what was on Netflix (which did have some tweaks made in the last year).

I don't care about the dub but I am a collector of anime so for me the CE is a no brainer cause it is exactly what I was hoping for.

You're really under estimating how much people care about the packaging. If the discs were truly all that mattered then you'd be right.

Yup, and I'll do the same thing as with Godzilla. Just get some blu ray slimline cases for the discs and store the rest.

And placed my order. The Collector's Edition is much more in my wheel house, the Ultimate Edition was nice though.

[Edit]Someone pointed out to me this apparently also happened with Power Rangers a while back. Still rather amusing to see though.

I've seen that image before on other preorders. I think it's a standard placeholder image on Amazon. Not sure why they chose that.

I mainly want the book it comes with. Also I'm a collector. I am a sub watcher of Eva, never watched either dub, but having two different dubs of something is kinda interesting to me
