I'd be more worried about WB or perhaps other streamers pulling content that I want to watch.

Streaming is more reliable long term. Streamers can duplicate files and whatnot. Streaming devices are relatively cheap, and don't have any moving parts.

But you're generally at the mercy of the streamers. What they want to charge. What they want to have available at any time. What bitrate they're willing to offer.

Pretty much everything has pros and cons.

Agreed, but the masses use smart tv apps by a long margin, and that’s where the advertisement money is. Plus, Alchav only uses his smart tv I believe.

Its really a good thing for you in that you are a casual user of streaming with a simple setup.

If you should ever move to HDR video and immersive audio then you will find a bag of agony awaiting you. Trying to find what combination hardware, provider and providers app all work together will be a daunting tasks for you.

And I would still hs e far less quality.

It’s all quality and ownership, you have neither.

Heck, my PS3 still plays fine after decades, it’s not an issue.

What you should be worried about, is smart TVs stopping support for the streaming services, and having to buy a new tv. This will happen way sooner than my equipment dying out.
Were smart TVs ever really good for watching streaming services? I have always used Roku Ultras in my house and recently got a Firestick 4K Max for work travel.

They don’t have to be good, it’s the masses we are talking about.

Like I said the Android Apps on a High End Sony UHD are Solid. You guys now have to worry about Player and Disc Functionality, especially with 4K UHD Discs. With Oppo Support gone when a Disc Fails, it's either a Bad Disc or BD Player! I'll take Streaming from a Server over Streaming from a Disc!

If you want “streaming” and wanting great quality then you should get Kaleidescape. But for sure alchav is too cheap to get into Kscape.

For someone so dedicated to streaming, why do you care?

Are you genuinely concerned/curious?

I have dead players from SONY,OPPO and PANASONIC and have not had a player in my setup in years. My physical purchases have slowed to next to nothing lately...for reasons..

So I have been enjoying getting through the sizeable backlog of titles on my server lately and will be looking to make some purchases when I cross the pond in a couple of weeks...

If you like streaming so much why don’t you already using Kaleidescape? Or are you too cheap for that and using “streaming” as your excuse to not buy discs.

Yes if I wanted better than Disc Quality Streaming I would use Kscape, but for my Quality needs the Streaming I use is more than adequate. I have all the Basic Streaming Providers and I don't think that is Cheap. Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, MovieAnywhere, and Fandango!

I also have all of that streaming services, discs and Kaleidescape. What’s your excuse other than being cheap?

You think having Kscape puts you on ezstreet, you almost sound like Wendell. You guys with your Projector Home Theaters and Disc Collection think you are above it all. The Love for Film and Home Theater just needs Fiber Access to Stream that File from a Server instead of a Disc!
