So... $174.98 plus $32.31 shipping plus $3.50 insurance plus $33.73 taxes and customs fees. Grand total of $244.52 USD. Sorry but nope, Eva is my favourite anime and I really wanted to buy a special edition with a nice box and art for my collection but the value just isn't there for me. That's five discs with the same content that I don't need and subpar packaging design and art extras. I was expecting something more aligned to the Gundam seed ultimate in terms of price and contents. I guess it's standard edition for me.

Those licenses for the ADV stuff must have been really expensive because looking at the actual physical contents both special editions are very overpriced.

As someone who watches just sub only, I’m going to get the standard version. The chipboard is nice and all but paying an extra $125 for a few pictures I’ll look at once and discs I’ll never watch seems too costly for me. At least it should look consistent next to GKIDS’ eventual release of the movies.

Having paid the big bucks for the first Japanese BD release, I’ll just get the Gee, kids one for $46. Will take up minimal space on the shelf.

Just speculation, I think some of the UK Ultimate Edition preorders that have been cancelled are made by those who have not purchased from Alltheanime before as the various distributors are scanning for scalpers?

Between the 2015 JP set and the Gkids CE, I think I have everything I need in terms of physical supplementary material. I'm gonna cancel my UK ultimate edition preorder.

Yeah looks like if I ever decide to get it there will be plenty of standard editions everywhere, probably just buy it used some day. Don't care about the dubs.

For those that have the 2015 JP set, how do you watch the show subtitled?

So for an extra $125 you get LD artwork (paper), a paperweight, lanyard, artboards (paper), and 116 more pages in your book.

So besides the $10 the paperweight and lanyard (2 things no one would bother buying separately) are worth you're being charged for paper at $1 a page. (btw you can buy 500 sheets of premium inkjet paper on Amazon for $7.50 )

Pre-ordered the CE. Not a dub fan, but wanted the ADV subs as well as all bonus features with at least some physical extras without paying the $50 it would've cost to ship an oversized set with stuff I don't care about (outside of the art book) on top of the high base price of the UE. Yeah, the CE's probably still rather overpriced, but it's possible the inclusion of the ADV/Manga subs/dubs somehow factors into the price (maybe they were expensive to license, or Khara is mandating a higher price on sets including them for whatever reason).

I pre-ordered the CE to be on the safe side, but is the ADV subs that much better than the Netflix? No interest in the dub and the movie version of EoE suits me fine.

I know that for Violet Evergarden the Netflix subs were pretty bad so I'm kind of worried about what they put out for Evangelion.

Amidst all this talk about the TV series, anyone have speculation when the movies will see a re-release from GKIDS? I'm not aware of when the license transitioned from FUNi to them nor know if there is some kind of timeframe a company needs to wait before announcing their version/release.

Nobody knows. It’s mostly dependent on how long Amazon’s rights last. For the record, GKIDS have yet to announce they even have the license for the Rebuild films. Either way, it’s going to be awhile before we hear anything.

Yes I have seen EVA enough times and understand Japanese well enough to not need subtitles. Servisu servisu, Otosan? Yada!, Sayonara, Baaaka, Omedetou, Owari....EOE saitei

We don't even have a blu-ray/4K announcement for the final Rebuild film. Once that's taken care of, it's open season.
