Yes but your lack of desire has not stopped them from being at the top of the market.

Sorry for what you're going through. I hope your wait isn't as long as anticipated.

Heck, we are all here on Blu-Ray.com. Next year the Blu-Ray format will be 20 years old (and DVD will be 30). I would say that Blu-Ray has been a rather successful format. But in terms of physical media for movies, DVD has been the market leader and still remains as such today. Yes, overall sale of physical media have declined over the years, but DVD still outsells the rest. And the 4K disc format has generally sold less than regular Blu-Ray, but itself will be 10 years old next year. It's one thing to lose like Betamax and HD-DVD, but these other formats have co-existed just fine. McDonalds may be the fast food market leader and many people obviously eat there. But there are plenty of other options that are still doing well in their own right and continuing to be successful, even if not at the same level as McDonalds. It's not like if I pull into a Wendy's or White Castle (the latter of which is more regional and not even in all of the states in the USA), I am going to go, "I can't eat here! This isn't the market leader!" I'm going to enjoy what I enjoy. Now, it's no secret that physical media's sales continue to decline. Many retail stores have stopped carrying it. It is becoming a more niche product. And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit worried about it's future. But as long as the studios (whether it be by themselves directly, or by licensing out their titles to other distributors) continue to allow their films to be released on it, it can still survive and serve the niche audience. And when it comes to comparing physical media's numbers to streaming, all of streaming tends to get lumped together as one big "thing". But it is splintered through many various services of varying levels of success. They are of course generally doing bigger numbers than physical media. But many of these studio-specific services that have cropped up in the last few years either haven't been profitable, or have had to do a lot of things (cutting down production budgets and the amount of original content they make, removing under performing content - or outright canceling unreleased content and taking tax write offs on it, raising prices, creating ad-supported tiers, etc.) to try to get there. And even some of those claiming they are profitable now likely comes with selective reasoning behind that. They might be profitable within the context of the money spent vs money earned during the current fiscal year, but relative to the amount of money they dumped into the service from the beginning to now, relative to the amount of money they've earned from it from launch until now, may not necessarily paint the same picture. Obviously Netflix is highly profitable. And odds are at least some of those studio specific ones have managed to become profitable (even with respect to everything spent since the beginning), but they certainly had to make a lot of compromises to get there. And what customers are now getting from many of these services is not what they were originally touted to be. Last edited by Dynamo of Eternia; 06-03-2025 at 03:03 PM. |

You and I could definitely swap medical war stories. Thursday will be my 40th appt. so far this year; you're probably right up there with me. All I can advise is that you persevere and take care of yourself as best you can, so that when that match is found it has the best possible chance of success. |

The fountain drink from McD is pre-chilled so when you add the drink to ice, it becomes super cold. I experimented with Coke at home. I chilled the Coke down to 0 Celcius (but not to frozen state) and put my mug in the freezer for the whole day. Dayummm. It tastes rather similar to Coke from McD.

With my penchant for believing that none of the things we talk about are going to matter soon, I've been finding less and less time for this hobby and concentrating on more day to day "bucket list" things LOL...
I always love popping in to this thread every once in awhile though as the eclectic tangents it takes always puts a smile on my face... In Toronto, we are really spoiled for choice when it comes to gourmet burger joints. I don't remember last time I had BIG MAC...but you lot have inspired me! Neither of my adult children has ever even had a carbonated beverage in their lives. My son is out... but today.. I'm "treating" my daughter to McDonalds for lunch..LOL |

I'm just sitting here in my backyard, putting the final touches on my upcoming vacation - emailing AIRBNB hosts, booking tours etc... after last year's great experience, my natural inclination would have been to space out too good of a thing...but we're just going to go for it and enjoy the things we can while we can... Of course, that doesn't mean I've abandoned the HT alltogether... I just put in a bid on a DENON A1H to potentially go 9.4.6 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Some longtime forum member, who is completely unknown to me, sent me a PM asking:
"do you happen to have any extra Disney Movie Club blus available?" I don't know for certain what they mean by "available", but I would not be surprised if they are looking for free blu-rays- and OOP ones at that. They did apologize for sending a "random message", but seeing as they sent it, anyway, the apology rings hollow. For the record I do not sell my blu-rays nor do I just give them away for the asking. Anyone else getting similar PMs? Last edited by Vilya; 06-03-2025 at 08:07 PM. |
