AVSforum is a home theatre equipment and movie forum, so do they not fall under that description?

There was a time when AVS was a science forum and there were a lot of technical posters there. Now it seems mostly dominated by laymen. The Video Download Services & Hardware section (streaming) [here] used to have a lot of posters, as you can see that section is almost dead.

Many of them there do seek out the best they can afford for home theatre equipment, have you seen the squabbling that goes on there over the best model TVs and other HT equipment?

What many of them there are not seeking out anymore though is the highest quality for their media consumption, they are content with streaming. I agree that the quality of the content also matters, the equipment and content go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other, they both are 50% of the experience. Though regardless of what mine and your views are of the people over there on AVS, it doesn’t change the point, the membership there represents what the modern day enthusiast now is.

For years now I only visit Networking Media Servers & Content Streaming, Remote Control Area and Digital Hi-End Projectors at AVS. On this ste my rounds include a single thread in 4K Blu-ray and 4K Movies, 4K Ultra HD Players, Hardware and News and this section.

Years ago a member that holds a doctorate (video compression and Firewire) told me that I should quit posting at AVS because most readers would not know what I was talking about.

I like the members of this thread and some have turned me on to titles that I did not know was available or provided new, useful information.

Now I need to go test my latest Pioneer drive purchase and make sure it reads 3 layer UHD Blu-ray disc.

I enjoyed the first installment. Blu-ray.com reviewer Brian Orndorf only gave the sequel a rating of 5 out of 10, but he doesn't like much of anything as far as I can tell. I'd give the sequel a chance.

I'm not completely against streaming. I stick to streaming services where you don't have to pay a cent or set up a user profile. Those include PlutoTV, Tubi, and the Roku Channel. Does YouTube count as streaming? Yes, I use that too.

But I find something that I like enough that I want to see it multiple times-I get a physical copy of it if possible, so it's always mine and I never get ad interruptions when I watch it.

Well, I have no problem with you enjoying streaming; I enjoy it, too, for what it is, but I do take exception with your falsely claiming that streaming quality is "up there" with disc. It isn't and that is an objective fact.

You do not need fiber internet for streaming and having fiber internet will not magically improve the quality of streamed content. Streaming remains heavily compressed and no amount of internet speed or internet service type can change that simple fact. 4K streaming at most uses 25-30 Mbps download speed with some streaming services going as low as 15 Mbps and you do not need fiber internet for download speeds that paltry. Even 10 Gbps internet service will not make a 25 Mbps stream anything more than it is: overly compressed and prone to artefacts.

So you have no actual arguments in response either to my valid arguments? If you disagree with someone the mature adult thing to do is to talk it out. Instead because you’ve got nothing you’ve resorted to child like behaviour by calling someone a troll because you disagree with them likely because you don’t have the skills to engage in debate, which puts the label of being a troll back on to you. Do you understand what a debate is and how to debate, it doesn’t seem like it? At the moment I am the winner of the debate, if you want to pick up where Anthony P left it with all of my points, arguments and questions he has refused to acknowledge and answer and won’t contend with my arguments and engage in debate over, then present your own counter arguments to my arguments in response, I looked forward to the challenge.

Man, you really don’t want people in this thread discussing the thread topic and the positives and negatives of both sides do you, it’s clear that you only want the thread to be one sided, as long as it aligns with what you think that’s all that’s allowed right?

Where did I cast aspersions with my first couple of posts? What are you referring to? If you’re referring to the use of the word ignorant Anthony P used the word first, and I responded to it fairly and with a fair question. If you’re referring to the comment about Anthony P being a Boomer or Gen Xer, he is. If you’re referring to using Anthony P’s generation status to make a point that he is out of touch especially when it comes to Gen Z and Gen Alpha, his comments support that. If you’re referring to the comment about Anthony P’s arguments being fuelled by emotion but are lacking in logic and reason, they are.

The pro and cons of disc and streaming have been going on ad nauseam. Very little has changed in years other than many SVOD has added AVOD. For those with Samsung TV’s, Netflix and maybe others have added HDR10+ to some of their titles.
