Did you guys see these Movies on Amazon Prime, Ben Affleck plays a different kind of Autistic Hitman!
No, I saw them both in theatres. But really enjoyed them both. Will definitely pick up the second one on disc as I did the first one.

That’s not true that nothing new is happening and being discussed. The thread where the discussion with Anthony P and I first started, the topic was about the possibility of Panasonic Blu-ray/4K player manufacturing ceasing, and the reduced player options that we now have for Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray compared to the amount of options that used to be available.

Boutique Blu-ray Labels Thrive in Digital Age, Defying Streaming Dominance, SXSW London Panel Finds: ‘The Romanticism of Having a Physical Product’

“I think they’ve been likened to vinyl, with the resurgence of vinyl,” said Holden, whose company Second Sight Films has operated for 31 years. “There’s that same collectibility factor that coupled with quality… streaming a film is never going to have the same quality as a disc, with compression and everything.”

"The panel underscored how boutique Blu-ray labels are successfully positioning physical media as premium collectibles that offer curated experiences unavailable through streaming platforms."

Thank you for sharing. You and I, as well as others, have compared 4K to Laserdiscs several times as far as mass adoption. That format did well alongside the VHS behemoth and even into the DVD era. There will always be those that want a physical copy of the movies they love with the best quality possible. And the special editions the boutique labels are putting out provide another level of enjoyment in the books, posters and cards that are often included in them.

No doubt streaming will always be more popular than physical media. Just as sports are more popular than live theatre. But the 2 can coexist and provide enjoyment in whatever form the viewer chooses. I use streaming daily. There are many amazing movies and series available on streaming I might not otherwise have been exposed to. But if it is something I enjoy and a physical copy is available that will always be my preferred method when viewing.

You’re trying to thread police here. Players manufacturing ceasing and the limited options now available falls with the confinements of this thread topic ‘Physical & digital EST: The future of home video discussion thread’.

It’s not as old news as you implied in your last post. The thread I am referring to is only a few weeks old, and so is the news article that thread topic was based on.

Where did I cast aspersions with my first couple of posts? What are you referring to? If you referring to the use of the word ignorant Anthony P used the word first, and I responded to it fairly and with a fair question. If you’re referring to the comment about Anthony P being a Boomer or Gen Xer, he is. If you’re referring to using Anthony P’s generation status to make a point that he is out of touch especially when it comes to Gen Z and Gen Alpha, his comments support that. If you’re referring to the comment about Anthony P’s arguments being fuelled by emotion but are lacking in logic and reason, they are.
Against my better judgement, I'll weigh in here..

I still feel new to this thread even though it's been a couple of years now. I do feel that I've been around long enough to appreciate the stances of the usual suspects and have no problem engaging with them on a wide variety of topics even if we have differing opinions on the actual topic of the thread.... and lets face it at over 2500 pages, there's precious little new ground to be covered.

You seem to write a lot in terms of "winning" the debate and getting another member to "concede" on a certain point. I see other members really drilling down, and expending a lot of energy on ALCHEV for his supposed deliberate spreading of misinformation... I'm not a big fan of branding someone a troll or namecalling in general although, I'm not immune to it myself at times. I used to use terms like joe six pack... but at my age, after years in this hobby..I've become THAT guy..

I understand your frustration because , I myself have found this thread to sometimes be something of a bit of a circle jerk of physical media advocates that seem to be a tad hyperbolic in describing the disparity between the quality of streaming (which can vary enormously in my experience within the same provider let alone between them) and physical media... For me LaserDisc and DVD just doesn't seem all that long ago...I can't bring myself to describe current 4K Dolby Vision enhanced Dolby Atmos DD+ compressed streamed presentations as garbage.... but then, I don't feel insulted when another member tries to insinuate that it's because my equipment isn't up to par.. or that I'm just not passionate enough about film to want it presented in it's best light...

Overall broski.. I think you just need to turn it down a notch.. You don't need to prove someone else wrong to be right (for you). If someone calls you troll, and you don't think you are, then you shouldn't care...if it bugs you, then you either shift your thinking or agree to disagree..

As far as the generations thing goes..It's a non starter for me personally..I'm definitely generation X (53), but I see the same stuff levied at "millennials" that was said about us in our 20s...It's more about where your priorities are at different stages of life.

The thing is, Alchav just claimed that Amazon streaming with fibre is a match for 4K disc, this is how he constantly lets himself down. We all know that bitrates aren’t even close to matching UHD and never will be, that’s before we even mention audio, I know first hand that Amazon isn’t in the same league as disc. I subscribe to the service through prime shopping.
He constantly ignores facts to the contrary, so what is that if it’s not trolling?

I’m always sceptical of members who have only signed up in the last year or so, then instantly start talking about disc’s fortunes. The word ‘agenda’ springs to mind.

That is trolling 101.

I have posted objective data at least 3 times showing Amazon Prime, as a digital locker, to be really lacking in the audio department and Fandango really lacking in the video department. Prime does fairly good with their originals.

You should put a bit more thought into it before you jump to conclusions. I’ve gone back over the other thread and you were posting to comments when the discussion was centred around a statement I made about owning 20 Blu-ray players in my home. Looking at your collection to the left my collection is much bigger if you need to know if I’m loyal or not lol.

Just because someone is arguing from the position where they’re saying something negative about the future of Blu-ray as a part of a valid argument in a discussion it doesn’t mean they are against it and want to see it’s demise.

I own far more discs now, just couldn’t be bothered to update them all, but I will do at some point.

Never came across a JSP that owned a projector, did his own calibration, used a media player to play MKV’s, had immersive audio, etc. Is standards that much higher in Canada?

OT post.

[Show spoiler]I use MakeMKV here to rip to .MKV. There are settings that you need to do in order to use MKV efficiently. You can also do a folder structure (BDMV) that is pretty straight forward. AVS thread here. R_volution thread here.

You know it's fantasy. You know it. We all know it. I would say it never gets old but it got old the first couple of times we tried to explain it to you.
Needing to believe pure nonsense is kind of fine. It's deceiving others that tends to bother us.

Streaming is optimized for wifi and does not care if you have synchronous fiber. This has been explained patiently more times than I think anything in the hopes you would actually understand. The only problem is the truth doesn't suit you.

Fair enough... While I've never set anyone on IGNORE on any site, I usually scroll past any line of discussion involving him and the responses from the rest of you guys to him..LOL..

It's been my belief, that he truly does not see the difference between physical and streamed content on his setup and that he believes that this is because his connection speed bridges the gap rather than any limitations of his gear.

I don't think that makes him a troll... I truly believe that he doesn't see a difference... The other stuff about content availability etc just seems like guys busting balls over their support over various sports teams.. I honestly don't see it rising to the level of TROLLING...certainly not worthy of banning IMHO...but, as a guy that's been banned from a few places, I guess my barometer for these things is a little different..
