I thought Typhoon Club was excellent, and head and shoulders above Guard and the Doors (the first Door was mediocre, but looked like a masterpiece when set alongside the sequel). I'm definitely up for the next 3.

I liked The Guard from Underground more than I expected I would. It's not a great film, but it's a nice time capsule with an interesting atmosphere, a pleasing look, considering the restrictions, and a few memorable scenes. I also like that it's not really a slasher (a subgenre I don't have much love for), but more of a basher.

They seem as much of a 'passion project' as anything Third Window has done before, perhaps more so.
i think you misunderstand or i wasn't clear. i see the directors company releases as the passion project, versus the more necessary or easier licenses for the other stuff being released.

I asked Adam yesterday if there was any new Obayashi planned and his response was "Not at the moment, but will give it a think".

What would everyone's most wanted Obayashi be?

Thanks for the news on that one. And the Mud Ships... was my favourite from the New Directors collection.

I think he said on Twitter he probably wouldn't do it due to it already having English subtitles, but considering how well Kani's edition of Beijing Watermelon has sold, I think he should consider a Region B edition.

I'd certainly buy it, for one, and I'm probably not alone. I'd only consider the Kani if it was confirmed to be Region B compatible, and even then it's quite pricy to import.

I am pretty shocked that Kani sold 1000 copies of Beijing Watermelon so quickly. Happily so though. I got my order in - sadly missed the slipcover but that doesn't bother me that much.

My most wanted from Third Window would be Chizuko's Younger Sister and The Rocking Horsemen (no idea on rights), Switching - Goodbye Me (Kadokawa), and The Discarnates (Shochiku I think).

Obayashi has like 50 movies – the only one I've seen that wasn't released on blu-ray is Sada, which is great like all his movies that I've seen. I'm not sure how you'd even see his other movies, are any of them available anywhere in any kind of quality? Anyway I would love for Third Window to mine some more gems out of his filmography (and I imagine there are lots), rather than just put out stuff that's already released in the US.

Not with English subtitles through official channels anyway, so the more released the better!

Third Window won't be releasing it so, for those of you Region B locked (and/or don't want to wait for the US Cinema Guild release), the new restoration of Shinji Somai's Moving has been released in France with English subtitles.

Someone on here, not in this thread though, said ALL the Kani titles they had, which I think was most of them, worked on region B players even though some of them are supposed to be locked to region A. Think they also said they didn't have a few of the newer ones & all this was in reply to someone who asked.

Basically I reckon this might play on region B players.

I actually don't know enough of the director to have a definitive answer. I first saw Hausu years ago and fell in love with it, but due to availability of his movies I only recently got the TWF boxsets and I've even yet to go through the Anti-War Trilogy.

Still, if there's anything even remotely similar to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I'd be all over it. It's easily my favourite of the five I've seen and also one of my all time favourite films in general.
