I kind of draw the line at not having English-friendly sets myself. I feel like I might as well pirate something if I have to put in a lot of work to get my BD's to be playable. I already don't like buying region B stuff since I have to watch it on my pc instead of my normal player lol

Eva was the closest I went to buying a JP only set since I liked the series so much and I still might just because it isn't SUPER expensive and has the song/different packaging than the US set but it is low on priority right now. JP sets have some really nice art boxes though which kind of makes me glad so many don't have English subs on them lol

Is it pirating when I buy a UHD from Best Buy that's missing it's original theatrical audio track and make a sync with a Laserdisc audio rip of said original theatrical audio track? It's a semi common practice with some folks on the board.

Just making sure I need to properly move goalposts for this one.

The misunderstanding has been cleared up. Because it no longer exists. Thanks, SEELE...I mean, mods.

And here I thought the mods sleep 24/7.
Back to procrastinating. To buy Eva or not.

Well I was planning on getting a easel stand for this set and Devilman Crybaby but I'm having trouble locating one that is reliable/recommended

I saw this one, https://www.hobbylobby.com/Art-Suppl...Easels/p/30430

but IDK if it is big enough

I preordered the CE via Rightstuf. Because they don't charge until shipment, it gives me time to pause over the merits of this release.

Given the inclusion of the Classic Dub/Sub on their own discs, it should mean that the Classic discs would include the on-air versions of 21-24 (otherwise, why call them classic?). But my Platinum DVD set already has both DC and OA version of those episodes, and given the circumstances repeated in this thread, I have to keep that DVD set. But I'm for the bonus features that were not included from that old release. I am curious of what would be missing from the 40-page booklet compared to the hardcover 156-page one from the UC, and if said 40 pages worth are equal to the individual booklets of the DVD volumes. The art cards I can give or take, as the Platinum DVD covers are essentially the same illustrations.

Stuff that's on my mind, and why I must think this through.

Me personally, I'm getting the standard release, if I really want a more accurate experience, I'll get the Japanese set and look up ripping and subtitle guides later when I have the disposable income. I may like the ADV dub, but I'm getting back to school and I'm not spending big money for a specific dub and subtitle translation. And if ADV wants GKIDs to ask a ridiculous amount of money, then that's their problem.

I guess it just depends on how much the video quality matters to you cause if you are fine with DVD quality you have all you need from the CE.

Went with the regular edition. I watch this in Japanese usually, and I'm sure the Netflix dub is fine. Space is becoming more and more of an issue for me. Only have room for a few hundred more titles, then I'm screwed.

On my Kallax next to all the other oversized sets and my vinyl box sets that won’t fit on my Billy. Space isn’t an issue, still got plenty of room to grow on the big boi boxes.

It really doesn't. I honestly don't care, because I value content over presentation.

That said, I don't have the original Manga DVDs. Purely because they were non-anamorphic, and despite what I said, that technicality draws the line for me.

Well they specified earlier on Twitter that the UE CE only includes the DC not the On Air, but I agree if they are including the ADV dubs on separate disc, makes no sense to not also have the On Air episodes of 21-24.

It's Director's Cut episodes only.

There are two ADV dubs - one which first came out on VHS which had the on-air episodes, then one which was re-dubbed when they got the license for the Director's Cut episodes and Renewal (i.e. Platinum)

Since it's been confirmed that it's a 5.1 audio mix, and that it's Director's Cut only, that almost certainly means it's the ADV redub (original ADV VHS dub was 2.0 audio, and did not cover Director's Cut).

Suspected reasons for the exclusion of the On Air episodes:

1. There isn't a Netflix dub for these, only DC went on Netflix.
2. Khara are presenting to the English speaking world their "definitive version," i.e. DC + Revival of Evangelion.
