USC is bowl-eligible in 2012. If two of those juniors that I mentioned earlier come back for next year, I see USC making a serious run for the NC, and I don't think that I'm delusional for thinking this. LOTS of young talent with LOTS of game experience in 2011. If one of those two juniors is Matt Barkley, then USC will be in the pre-season Top-5. Mark it down.

That was exactly what I was getting at. I'd prefer 16 teams, but in the shorter-term 8 teams seems more realistic. You could even keep the BCS rankings to determine the top-8 since some formula would likely be needed to determine who makes it.

Right now the top 8 BCS ranked teams are: LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma St., Virginia Tech, Stanford, Boise and Houston. I don't think many would have a problem with that bunch making a playoff. You even have 2 small conference schools represented.

Yes D2 does have a playoff system but it is still far from perfect. There are regional rankings & the top 6 (out of 10) teams get into the playoffs. There are always D2 teams that get left out because of the human vote for at-large bids (you win your conference you are fine).

The only way I see a playoff semi-fair for D1 is to move the # of teams in D1 to 160 teams & have 16 conferences (10 teams in a conference). Everyone in the conference plays each other & the winner of each conference makes it into a 16 team playoff. Then the winner of conference #1 plays #2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc. Then you could alternate home-field advantage each year between odds & evens for the 1st round. Then find a way to alternate home-field for the quarter & semi-finals & have the National Championship in a neutral site & move it around the country year after year.

I don't see a problem with just taking the top 8 or 16 teams from the BCS ranking and putting them in a playoff. Right now you'd have: LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma St., Virginia Tech, Stanford, Boise and Houston. Not many people would argue with those teams making an 8 team playoff. There are too many garbage conferences to put some D1 conference champions into a tournament.

Urban Meyer has reportedly agreed to a seven-year contract with Ohio State according to WKMG-TV. He will reportedly bring in Florida linebackers coach D.J. Durkin as his defensive coordinator and keep current Ohio State interim coach Luke Fickell as assistant head coach. The report states Meyer will be announced as head coach in the coming days. ESPN, CBS Sports, and SI have not yet picked up this report so there could be questions about the credibility of the report.

Great now I have to like them a little.

Oh well at least they'll have to admit it took an SEC coach to fix them

Thanks for ruining my day Fate.

Urban Meyer just released the following statement:

Quote:
I have not been offered any job nor is there a deal in place. I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my family and will not comment on this any further.
I believe Meyer has agreed to the job but doesn't want the focus to be on him prior to the Ohio State-Michigan game. Dan Patrick thinks the hiring could be announced on November 29 at the Duke-Ohio State basketball game.

I agree I'm sure he doesn't want this to eat up the holidays and everything going on this weekend.

Guess he's had enough of his family and health

It's 7 years for around $40 mill I'm hearing. Pretty pathetic when someone says they're leaving a job for family/health reasons then turns around and takes another high-stress job 10 months later. My local radio show host probaby nailed it. Meyer left Florida because of Bare-cubbord-itis. The team was headed for a few down seasons so he slithered out to await another job.

I mean nobody would fault him if he had 2 or 3 bad seasons and was back winning titles... I just don't like the run-around he did saying it was all about his family. We know these guys won't ever lose that need to win

This would be a slam dunk hire for Ohio State. Meyer is one hell of a great coach and wins where ever he goes. I must say though, everybody and their third cousin saw this coming from a mile away.

Hardly surprising given perpetrators of these crimes almost always commit some of them against family members.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...-attorney-says

Quote:
One of the two new allegations of child sexual abuse against former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was made by a family member, Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola said, according to The Patriot-News of Harrisburg.

Amendola said the incident is alleged to have occurred before Sandusky was arrested earlier this month on charges he molested eight boys over a 15-year period, but was not brought to the attention of authorities until after Sandusky was charged, according to the report.

Pennsylvania's Children and Youth Services agency opened preliminary investigations of the two new cases against Sandusky within the last two months, the newspaper reported Tuesday. If the cases are deemed credible, they would be the first allegations made against Sandusky by persons who are still children, according to the report.

Sandusky has maintained he is innocent of the charges.

In Pennsylvania, adult allegations of abuse are handled by police, even if they occurred when the accuser was a child, while CYS' involvement is triggered when allegations involve children younger than 18.

The scandal resulted in the Penn State board of trustees dismissing longtime football coach Joe Paterno and president Graham Spanier, saying the men failed to act after a graduate assistant claimed he saw Sandusky sexually abusing a young boy in a campus shower in 2002.

It also led to charges of failing to properly report suspected abuse and perjury before a grand jury against athletic director Tim Curley and former senior vice president Gary Schultz. Both men have said they are innocent of the charges.

Attorneys for Curley and Schultz wrote to state prosecutors Tuesday to seek grand jury testimony and other information related to their cases.

The attorneys are seeking corroboration of statements by assistant coach Mike McQueary that he told Schultz and Curley he witnessed Sandusky sodomizing a boy in the football team showers in 2002.

The lawyers say that corroboration is required to prove perjury. They also want any information showing McQueary and Sandusky socialized together after the 2002 incident.

The attorney general's office declined to comment.

It will be interesting to see how his signing will impact the recruiting class selections for next season (assuming that he is, in fact, the new OSU coach ).

Bad enough you do it to kids outside the home, to torment a child living in your house. I REALLLLLY hope he goes to a jail where some of the inmates have kids.

He should be there right now. It was only because of a judge with questionable links to his charity that he's out of jail on what amounts to no bail money. Unfortunately he'll probably be kept in protective custody since they know he wouldn't last a day in general population.

Funny thing is in that respect prisoners actually have a higher set of moral standards than the Penn St. administration. Unlike Penn St. inmates don't just look the other way when it comes to child rapists. There's a certain hierarchy amongst prisoners and child rapists are at the very bottom of the food chain.

And you never know, maybe some guard will "accidentally" leave a door unlocked. It happened to Jeffrey Dahmer. The courts were unable to sentence him to death but his fellow prisoners took matters into their own hands with a broomstick.

So lame. Just realized the Arkansas-LSU game is on right now. Can't watch it since I'm at work. If Arkansas wins the BCS picture gets really ugly. And right now they do lead 7-0 in the 2nd.

Watching the final game of Miami's season is very bittersweet for me. Our monster recruiting class from 2008 has never panned out, but I do wonder how much of it was stunted by the Randy Shannon regime. I will really miss Sean Spence though, he's one of the best linebackers in the country. It's a real shame he doesn't have the size for the NFL, but a lot of people in the Miami program say he'll be a hell of a coach one day. Go 'Canes!!!!

It feels weird seeing Penn St. and Ohio St. going to a bowl game but not Miami.

You have to think the Big Ten and NCAA are hoping Wisconsin beats Penn St. Otherwise Penn St. makes the first ever conf title game. What an embarrassment it would be in Penn St. represented the conference in the Rose Bowl.
