Given the fact that you basically spend every waking moment in this thread, I find this hard to believe.

Also, who the hell is so self-unaware to say, "I spend an hour engaged in academic research every day"?

That's like saying, "Before I retire every evening, I pour myself a glass of warm milk and engage in a vigorous reading of Dostoevsky, Tolstoy or Joyce. Or, if I'm feeling particularly frisky, I settle in with a bit of Proust."

[Show spoiler]Then along comes me, a person who has genuinely failed in life, right alongside all of the great successes, failed and failed again, always getting back up, trying, again and again, making a difference but, then, still not rising to the level of success that would have me say, okay I can stop trying now.
So, what did you learn from your own mistakes and failures as each failure is a lesson learned? But didn't you say you were a writer; what have you written and have any of your writings been published?

Print out all of mirifaux's posts on this forum - you will have the craziest (and maybe the longest) novel ever written.

Its truly astounding how several of you frequently virtue signal about certain people being on your ignore lists and then proceed post after post, page after page, to heap attention on the same people you are claiming to ignore. Might want to look up what "ignore" means!

Now, whenever the topic arises of who would bother taking the time out of their day to list the people they dislike and attempt to put them in order, I can say, "I know a guy! Kraven! No, but really, he lists people he hates, like it's a totally normal thing to do!" And still, I don't mind you, I certainly don't hate you and I don't think you're worthless.

It makes no difference if I'm in the Blu-ray.com boards or the other main places I go, or the main one, when I am on a board, I am also reading or running numbers for a study or something of that nature. The fact of me being here is not evidence of me not being on the computer reading. Quite the opposite. Also, if you're lucky, by the time you're my age, you will have developed the skill to multi-task when reading, accumulating or evaluating data. My guess is you probably already have that skill. You just might not have tested it yet, so seeing someone on a board makes you think they aren't doing anything else at the same time.

I know a man who says almost exactly that, "retire", "milk", and it is Proust every night, for forty some odd years. Although, frumpy, curmudgeonly academic types are not the only academics in the world. Some of us are nice, even sweet, good Christians, good family members and friends, decent people all around, but, sadly, we still compulsively spend our lives in the pursuit of knowledge and even refuse to sleep if we haven't learned enough that day. So, basically, don't be like me. You'll have more fun if you're not.

To rdodolak...
[Show spoiler]
I learned quite a lot actually, but it would bore the hell out of people to talk about it all here. I will say this, I failed to permanently assimilate one lesson, as a young criminologist. If you stop a man killing junkie prostitutes and one of them, a likely, almost guaranteed, future victim, goes home, high, and kills her child, that is, in a significant way, your fault. That didn't happen to me. It happened to a man who ended up in the hospital after failing to kill himself and then, thankfully, he quit to do a different job.

I also quit, even though it wasn't me, because I realized I couldn't live with that if it happened to me, and it happens to all of us at some point, that a saved victim commits a horrible crime of their very own. Twenty years later, I participated in helping a person to survive cancer and that person turned out to be a gang member who killed a person before even meeting me and then turned around, after beating cancer, and took another young man's life. I tolerated the experience because the oncologist and radiologist were necessary in his treatment. My protocol could only work if carried out by doctors and, were I never involved, he still would have received standard treatment and been alive at the time he committed that crime, although probably would have died a few years later. In other words, I didn't pull the trigger, as it were, but I participated in saving a horrible person and would rather I had not.

I learned not to interfere with God's plan (or whatever you call the order-from-chaos of our universe). I no longer involve myself in other people's affairs and I leave it to Him (or fate or whatever you want to call it) to guide them. I try to remain neutral in all things and will, unto my death.

As to my books, I write the same everywhere, although I keep key details on my life to myself, so, if you can figure out who I am, good for you and you're smart. I will never confirm it. If I'm sitting on a panel and you ask me directly, I will say something like, "Am I who?" and then move on. I have actually done that to people who guessed correctly. My private life is my private life.

I never had any desire to beat people over the head with my few genuine accomplishments, to make them think I'm special, because the king of all lessons I have learned is that none of us are special. We are all as special as each other, all equally important, and the perception that one person is better than another is based on just that, perception, and, therefore, is meaningless. That is why I don't hate anyone here, even though there are people who harbor genuine hatred of me, more who harbor general dislike, but some who actually hate. We're all just the same, with minor variations, all human.

Coming to this thread is like hitting a (brick) wall...of text.

Glad I was able to order Forced Entry without playing a cat and mouse game. Middle-of-the-night sales tactics are NOT a viable sales gimmick, in case anyone is wondering. Even the Asian premium steelbook guys have set times when people can preorder.

Correct this is the only release. Code Red was initially going to release it until Dark Force got wind of it and realized it's way more up our alley.

And furthermore for a relatively new business it doesn't seem to make much sense to limit the amount of copies someone wants to purchase if we are intending to be a successful business.

I look forward to seeing "The Last Victim/Forced Entry". I did have one question. It states on the site "Brand new 2k scan with extreme restoration from the original film negative and missing scenes from a 35mm print". Does this mean "The Last Victim" is completely from the original film negative and "Forced Entry" has the missing scenes from a 35mm print or do both have missing scenes from a 35mm print in addition to the original film negative?

My niece made that reference a while back. I looked it up.... That's not a thing I really needed to learn.
