I don't care for Kubrick films including the Shining. I just don't care for his directing style which is meant to be unsettling but I also don't deny that he is a good director. It is just not for me as I have never felt the need to go back to watch any of his movies. I will probably see Doctor Sleep one day though.

Another unpopular opinion is I do not care for the Lord of the Rings movies. I find them very boring with some very irritating characters. Gollum mostly. Can't stand him. Also don't think the writing is that good. Especially compared to the books which I have only read some of. The production values are impressive though with some good performances but mostly I find these movies just good background noise while I clean house or something.

I can't imagine an actress giving a better performance as Shelley Duvall did in the Shining. In that particular role she was perfect and 3 women she gave one of the best performances

The Shining mini-series was far from perfect, but I liked it a lot more than the theatrical movie. As someone mentioned above, I don't care for Kubrick films. I'm not a Nicholson fan, either.

As with every single thing I've posted on this thread, these are honest opinions.

Nicholson would be my favorite actor and Shelly Duvall played her part well in The Shining. Heck, even the kid was excellent and child actors are usually horrible but the film does nothing for me. I will always take the book in this case.

I thought everyone in that series was better with the exception of the guy who played Halloran, and De Morney was perfect for the book's character. Not to mention, none of the mirrors in my house cracked when she came on screen. It did have a pacing issue and it was tamed down for TV, other than that, it was better than Kubricks IMNSHO.
