Still on holidays in Europe, and are now on the last week of the trip! Will be back by next Friday!

Have picked up another German edition, that of the Capelight digibook edition of Runaway Train. I picked up Cover B, as that was the only one available. Still couldn’t find The Punisher. Oh well.

Also, I have now changed my profile picture to Larry David. My life is a comedy of errors, and I’ve been watching Curb Your Enthusiasm more often, so it feels so fitting to be Larry David. It just is.

With the news of the new season I'd thought it was time for a rewatch

Missed a few films on the big screen earlier this year, with the bluray releases now coming out for titles like Shape of Water and Isle of Dogs, I am slowly catching up on. The Later I watched yesterday and enjoyed, The Shape of Water was my next blind purchase and viewing tonight. Totally different to Isle, Sally Hawkins was very good, as was Michael Shannon and Octavia Spencer in this Fairy Tale(but definitely not for the kiddies Fairy Tale) set in the cold war .
I think multiple viewings are required for Shape.

My first purchases whilst visiting the US...

Popped into Target and found the 4K Strangers Things release on sale for $14.99!! Then headed over to Best Buy and picked up The Dark Crystal 4K Steelbook. Shark Week and Hard Candy were $2 Thrift Store bargains

I popped into Barnes & Noble in Seattle, but was a bit overwhelmed by how much money I could have spent with the 50% off Criterion Sale so I left empty handed.... might have to rethink that process and go in blinkered with a list next time

Good score. I imported the US copy of Hard Candy ‘cos the Aussie Dendy release is 1080i/50. AND Stranger Things BD/DVD (not the UHD/BD like you have, ‘cos I bought the off EBay just before the UHD was released),
since it looks like Stranger Things is not going to get an outside of US BD/UHD release.

Very envious... Got a sister going to the States for New Year’s, might just ask (for Xmas) if she could do some Blu-Ray shopping over there (give her a wad of cash and a list of titles).
F*ck you very much to the Aussie government. GST on international shipping is bullshit.

Im going on a trip to the states early next year and will buy a truckload of titles not on amazon au. On another note, i ended up grabbing these for just over $10 at cashies, and it looks like cat on a hot tin roof has gone oop in australia and the us one is pricey

I've never been there. Do you find that the discs are in quite good nick? Do you check them before you buy?

It depends. Most discs are in good condition and work fine. I think they also offer a 90 day warrunty if it skips. Im unsuare how many cashies there are in NZ, but ive found some really great and collectable stuff throughout the years

Cashies are all over NZ. Gotten a few BDs from there, they're usually in good nick. I don't go there often just because they're only open 9-to-5 and located in a spot where it's an absolute shitshow at getting a carpark.

What are their prices like. My cashies used to be $6 each and now theyve gradually dropped to $3 each, with some ocasionally being $1 or $2

Last time I went there it was anything from $2 to $15. Probably less now, it's at least a year since my last visit. Maybe i'll pop in there this week just to see if there's anything worth a look.

Gotta say, I wasn't very impressed with the 4K or HDR quality of this disc. Either that, or the standard Blu-ray was a fantastic transfer. One scene which looked especially terrible from memory is
[Show spoiler]when they're in the hotel from The Shining.
But for $19 - who really cares..

A part from that, it's a good movie. I think this is one that will be more liked over time. I appreciated the attention they gave to Ernest Cline in the special features - his garage is enough to give most 80's nerds a wet dream.

I'm just waiting on my UK 3D addition now, I've heard mixed things about that as well, though the scenes in the Oasis are supposedly reference, so I'm assuming the real world 3D is supposed to be dulled, much to the dislike of some viewers.

I went to my local one today and it was crap - nothing really there. Any movies there were DVD priced at $1 and $2. No bluray. Quite a few stacks of computer games, Playstation and the like.
